Abstract

Identity is fluid, as it is constantly re-formed. This research aims to describe how Nora Seed’s identity keeps being re-formed in The Midnight Library. The data of this research were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method within the theoretical framework of identity re-formation by Chiranjeevi (2023). Chiranjeevi explains that the process of identity formation in literature involves individual experiences, self-realization, or traumatic events. The result showed that Nora’s identity keeps being re-formed in her journeys in a parallel universe. The creation of the parallel universe provided Nora with an opportunity to revisit her regrets, redefine her passions, and question perfection. The fluidity of Nora’s identity indicates how new identities are formed from experience and learning from the past by being more critical and reflective of themselves.
