    Abstract

    Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk : (1) Mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal persamaan garis lurus berdasarkan kriteria Watson dan (2) Mendeskripsikan faktor penyebab kesalahan dalam menyelesaikan soal persamaan garis lurus berdasarkan kriteria Watson.
    Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dan menggunakan metode pendekatan kualitatif karena melibatkan data non-statistik. Adapun subjek yang di uji adalah siswa SMP Negeri 6 Cimahi kelas VIII tahun ajaran 2022/2023 yang telah mendapatkan materi persamaan garis lurus, dengan memberikan tes tertulis untuk melihat kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal kontekstual. Akan diambil 1 kelas untuk diberikan tes tertulis. Lalu diambil 10 siswa yang melakukan kesalahan untuk diwawancarai.
    Ada beberapa faktor yang menyebabkan siswa SMP Negeri 6 Cimahi kelas VIII melakukan kesalahan dalam mengerjakan soal matematka materi persamaan garis lurus, yaitu : (1) siswa belum memahami maksud atau konsep yang terdapat dalam soal. (2) tidak mengetahui cara yang harus digunakan dalam mengerjakan soal dan tidak memahami bagaimana cara menuliskan langkah-langkah penyelesaiannya.

    This research was conducted to: (1) Identify the types of errors made by students in solving linear equation problems based on Watson's criteria, and (2) Describe the factors causing errors in solving linear equation problems based on Watson's criteria.
    This study is descriptive and uses a qualitative approach as it involves non-statistical data. The subjects tested were eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Cimahi for the 2022/2023 academic year who had received linear equation material. A written test was administered to identify the students' errors in solving contextual problems. One class was selected to be given a written test, and then 10 students who made errors were interviewed.
    Several factors caused eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Cimahi to make errors in solving mathematics problems on linear equation material, namely: (1) students did not understand the meaning or concept of the problem, and (2) they did not know the method to use in solving the problem and did not understand how to write down the solution steps.
