Abstract

Kata Kunci: computational thinking, mathematical habits of mind. Computational thinking is the process of thinking to find solutions in solving problems using systematic steps like a computer. These steps are decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking. Computational thinking skills are closely related to mathematical habits of mind if they are associated with solving problems that are not easy to solve. Mathematical habits of mind are the tendency to behave intelligently when faced with mathematical problems that are difficult to work with. This study aims to describe the computational thinking ability of junior high school students grade VIII from the category of mathematical habits of mind. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study. The subject of this study is a grade VIII student at one of the State Junior High Schools in the city of Bandung who has studied the building material of a flat-sided space. The data obtained from this study used a mathematical habits of mind questionnaire, a computational thinking ability test, and an interview. The results of this study show that students with high mathematical habits of mind meet all indicators of computational thinking, namely decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking. Students with moderate mathematical habits of mind also meet all indicators of computational thinking, namely decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking. Students with low mathematical habits of mind can only achieve two indicators of computational thinking, namely decomposition and pattern recognition, they have not achieved the indicators of abstraction and algorithmic thinking. Keywords: computational thinking, mathematical habits of mind.
