Abstract

Permasalahan pada penelitian ini banyaknya temuan terhadap siswa kelas V SD
yang mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita (word problem)
matematika. Soal cerita (word problem) merupakan soal cerita yang membutuhkan
penalaran yang berkesinambungan dalam memecahakan penyelesaian masalahnya.
Hal ini ditandai dengan banyaknya siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam
mengubah kalimat yang ada pada soal cerita tersebut menjadi suatu kalimat
matematika atau model matematika. Sehingga penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk
mendapatkan analisa yang menyeluruh mengenai kesulitan siswa kelas V SD
dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita (word problem) matematika. Penelitian ini
dilakukan terhadap 13 siswa di salah satu sekolah dasar negeri yang ada di kota
Cirebon. Dari 13 siswa tersebut terdiri dari 3 siswa berkategori kemampuan tinggi,
4 siswa berkategori kemampuan sedang dan 6 siswa berkategori kemampuan
rendah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu metode
penelitian kualitatif. Adapun desain penelitian yang diambil yaitu studi kasus. Hasil
penelitian yang didapatkan yaitu mayoritas kemampuan siswa kelas V ini termasuk
pada kategori rendah dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita menurut tahapan Polya yaitu
memahami masalah, membuat rencana penyelesaian, melaksanakan penyelesaian,
dan meninjau kembali langkah penyelesaian untuk. Dilihat kemampuan
pemrecahan masalah dari 13 siswa tersebut terdapat sebesar 49,23% termasuk ke
dalam kategori rendah, sebesar 27,31% termasuk dalam kategori sedang dan
sebesar 23,46% termasuk dalam kategori tinggi. Dilihat dari persentase kemampuan
pemecahan masalah siswa yang banyak termasuk dalam kategori rendah. Maka
pada penelitian ini akan secara mendalam mencari tahu apa saja jenis-jenis
kesulitan yang dialami siswa dalam melakukan pemecahan masalah menurut Polya.
Adapun pada penelitian ini ditemukan beragam jenis-jenis kesulitan siswa dalam
menyelesaikan soal cerita matematika yaitu kesulitan dalam bahasa, kesulitan
memahami masalah, kesulitan dalam membuat rencana pemecahan masalah,
kesulitan dalam menjalankan rencana pemecahan masalah, dan kesulitan melihat
kembali langkah penyelesaian. Solusi dalam mengatasi jenis-jenis kesulitan
tersebut yaitu melalui metode pengelolaan grafik, metode pengajaran remedial,
metode jarimatika, model pendidikan matematika realistik, model pembelajaran
berbasis proyek, pembelajaran berbasis masalah, pembelajaran yang mengarahkan
siswa untuk memecahkan soal cerita, dan pendekatan kooperatif kontrol.
Sedangkan, bagi siswa yang tidak mengalami kesulitan menyelesaikan soal cerita
matematika diberikan program pengayaan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat
dipertimbangkan oleh peneliti selanjutnya untuk dikembangkan secara lebih luas
dalam menganalisis kesulitan siswa kelas V SD dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita
(word problem) matematika. ;

The problem in this research is that there are many findings regarding fifth grade
elementary school students who experience difficulty in solving math word
problems. Story problems (word problems) are story problems that require
continuous reasoning in solving the problem. This is indicated by the number of
students who experience difficulty in changing the sentences in the story problems
into mathematical sentences or mathematical models. So this research aims to
obtain a comprehensive analysis of the difficulties of fifth grade elementary school
students in solving mathematics word problems. This research was conducted on
13 students at one of the state elementary schools in the city of Cirebon. Of the 13
students, 3 students were in the high ability category, 4 students were in the medium
ability category and 6 students were in the low ability category. The research
method used in this research is a qualitative research method. The research design
taken is a case study. The research results obtained were that the majority of class
V students' abilities were in the low category in solving story problems according
to Polya's stages, namely understanding the problem, making a solution plan,
carrying out the solution, and reviewing the solution steps for. Looking at the
problem solving abilities of the 13 students, 49.23% were in the low category,
27.31% were in the medium category and 23.46% were in the high category.
Judging from the percentage of students' problem solving abilities, many of them
fall into the low category. So this research will in depth find out what types of
difficulties students experience in solving problems according to Polya. In this
research, various types of student difficulties were found in solving mathematics
story problems, namely difficulties in language, difficulty understanding the
problem, difficulty in making a problem solving plan, difficulty in carrying out the
problem solving plan, and difficulty looking back at the solution steps. Solutions to
overcome these types of difficulties are through graphic management methods,
remedial teaching methods, mathematics methods, realistic mathematics education
models, project-based learning models, problem-based learning, learning that
directs students to solve story problems, and cooperative control approaches.
Meanwhile, students who do not have difficulty solving math word problems are
given an enrichment program. The results of this research can be considered by
future researchers to be developed more broadly in analyzing the difficulties of fifth
grade elementary school students in solving mathematics word problems.
