Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the IPS Learning Textbook on the reading literacy skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bandung. Maximum reading literacy skills are cultivated through factors such as deep content comprehension and information analysis. A good learning textbook can be identified by clear content presentation, accurate information delivery, and the quality of the textbook. This research involves a sample of class 7-2, consisting of 29 students, and class 7-3, consisting of 31 students, using Probability sampling through random sampling. The instruments used include the Likert Scale and 21 Point items. The method used in the data analysis technique is the Quasi Experimental Nonequivalent Control Group design. Based on the research results, the first hypothesis test indicates that there is a difference in students' reading literacy skills before and after using the IPS Learning Textbook. The second hypothesis test results show a difference between the pre-test and post-test results, as well as the questionnaire results of reading literacy skills for the control group using conventional teaching methods in the subject of Social Sciences and the effective use of the IPS Learning Textbook on the reading literacy skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bandung. Additionally, the mean rank obtained in the experimental group is larger compared to the control group.
