Abstract

This research is motivated because the founding of the problems during the process of learning PKn subject in school. One of the problems is the learning process that happens in the classroom more targeted to improve student’s ability to memorize the materials, so students are less developing their critical thinking skills, also the application of learning models in PKn subject have not been effectively applied. Because of that, this research aim to try to apply the brainstorming learning models in PKn subject.The question that asked in this research is “Does the application of brainstorming learning models can improve student’s critical thinking skills on PKn subject in 8th grade at JHS 1 Lembang?”. And the purpose of the research is to get an overview about the application of brainstorming learning models that can improve student’s critical thinking skills on PKn subject in 8th grade at JHS 1 Lembang. Thinking skills is a set of types of the skills and dimensional thinking, also social and communication skills which consist of five levels, there is: to interpret, to apply, to analyze, to synthesize, and to evaluate (Somantri, 2001: 165), and critical thinking is a process of thinking by making an assessment and applying appropriate norms and standards and process of critical thinking is part of a complex thinking skills (Sapriya and Winataputra, 2003: 196).The approach that used in this research is qualitative approach, and the method that used is a descriptive method. And data in this research was collected by using interviews, observation, questionnaire, documentation studies, and field notes.And the result of this research is that the application of brainstorming learning models can enhance student’s critical thinking skills: (1) Students can search and define the idea or also the new ideas that they have in their mind by writing their opinion on the board, (2) Students can give a simple explanation, such as analyzing many types of opinions, ask, and answer the question that difficult to understand, and (3) Students may consider and decide the best alternative answers for solve a problem. And also (4) this application of brainstorming learning models will make the learning more democratic for students freely to express their opinions, refute the arguments from others, and respect one another for every opinion that expressed by each students.
