Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh gambaran mengenai peningkatan kemampuan memahami dan keterampilan proses sains antara siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran berupa penerapan siklus belajar OMGVA (observation, manipulation, generalization, verification, dan application) menggunakan metode semi open ended experiments dengan siswa yang hanya mendapat pembelajaran berupa penerapan siklus belajar OMGVA pada materi tekanan, sebagai upaya untuk memperbaiki proses pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan harapan Implementasi Kurikulum 2013. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah true experimental design dengan randomized pretest posttest control group design. Partisipan penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII di salah satu MTs Negeri di Kabupaten Sumedang tahun pelajaran 2016-2017. Jumlah sampel yang terlibat sebanyak 82 siswa yang terbagi menjadi kelas eksperimen (terdiri dari 41 siswa, 19 laki-laki dan 22 perempuan) dan kelas kontrol (terdiri dari 41 siswa, 21 laki-laki dan 20 perempuan) yang dipilih melalui teknik cluster random sampling. Jenis instrumen yang digunakan yaitu tes kemampuan memahami dan tes keterampilan proses sains dengan bentuk pilihan ganda. Analisis data tes menggunakan analisis gain yang dinormalisasi (<g>) dan uji beda. Hasil analisis data <g> menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan memahami materi tekanan siswa pada kelas eksperimen diperoleh sebesar 0,53 dengan kategori sedang; pada kelas kontrol diperoleh sebesar 0,40 dengan kategori sedang; peningkatan keterampilan proses sains siswa pada kelas eksperimen diperoleh sebesar 0,56 dengan kategori sedang; dan pada kelas kontrol diperoleh sebesar 0,34 dan berada pada kategori sedang. Hasil analisis uji beda data <g> menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang positif dan signifikan antara kemampuan memahami materi tekanan siswa kelas eksperimen dengan siswa kelas kontrol, dan terdapat perbedaan yang positif dan signifikan antara keterampilan proses sains siswa kelas eksperimen dengan siswa kelas kontrol. Dengan demikian, penerapan siklus belajar OMGVA menggunakan metode semi open ended experiments dapat meningkatkan kemampuan memahami siswa pada materi tekanan dan keterampilan proses sains siswa secara signifikan.-----The purpose of this study was to obtain a description of the enhancement of the understanding ability and science process skills between students who received learning in application of OMGVA learning cycle (observation, manipulation, generalization, verification, and application) using semi open ended experiments method with students who only get the learning in application of OMGVA learning cycle on pressure material, in an effort to improve the learning process in accordance with the expectation of Curriculum Implementation 2013. The method used was true experimental design with randomized pretest posttest control group design. The subject of the research were the students of islamic junior high school in Sumedang of 2016-2017 academic year. The sample was chosen by cluster random sampling technique. The number of samples involved in this study were 82 students divided into 2 groups, experimental class (41 students, with 19 male and 22 female) and control class (41 students, with 21 male and 20 female). There were two types of instruments used, the understanding ability tests, and the science process skills tests with multiple choice. The data analysis was performed using a normalized gain analysis <g> and different test. The result of <g> data analysis shows that the enhancement of the student’s understanding ability in the experimental class was obtained at 0.53 and was in the medium category; in the control class was obtained at 0.40 and was in the medium category; the enhancement of students' science process skills in the experimental class was obtained at 0.56 and was in the medium category; in the control class was obtained at 0.34 and was in the medium category. The result of different test data analysis shows that there is a positive and significant difference between the students' understanding ability in the experimental class and the control class, and there is a positive and significant difference between the students' science process skills of the experimental class and the control class. Thus, the implementation of the OMGVA learning cycle using semi open ended experiments method can enhance students’ understanding ability on pressure matterial and students' science process skills significantly.
