Abstract
Latar belakang dari penelitian ini adalah kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa di salah satu SDN di Kecamatan Babakan Ciparay Kota Bandung masih rendah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh proses pembelajaran yang menekankan pada hafalan. Terbukti dari hasil studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan oleh peneliti mengenai tes kemampuan konsep pada materi peristiwa dalam kehidupan, yaitu dari 37 siswa hanya 16,22% atau sebanyak 6 orang yang mendapatkan nilai di atas Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum (KKM) yang telah ditentukan yaitu 73. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa dengan menerapkan model cooperative learning tipe mind mapping. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan desain penelitian dari Kemmis & Mc. Taggart yang terdiri dari tiga siklus. Setiap siklus dimulai dari kegiatan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Partisipan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas V dengan jumlah siswa 37 orang yang terdiri dari 15 siswa perempuan dan 22 siswa laki-laki. Instrument yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah lembar tes kemampuan pemahaman konsep dan lembar observasi aktivitas belajar siswa selama diterapkan model cooperative learning tipe mind mapping. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa aktivitas belajar siswa selama penerapan model cooperative learning tipe mind mapping berhasil meningkat pada setiap aspeknya, terlihat dari hasil rata-rata pada siklus I sebanyak 40,27%, pada siklus II menjadi 51,48%, dan 62,70% pada siklus III. Sedangkan peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep pada siklus I sebanyak 43,24%, pada siklus II menjadi 67,56%, dan 91, 89% pada siklus III. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa penerapan model cooperative learning tipe mind mapping dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa di kelas V. Kata kunci : mind mapping, kemampuan pemahaman konsep. ----- The background of this research is the ability to understand the concept of students in one of the elementary schools in Babakan Ciparay Subdistrict, Bandung City is still low. This is caused by the learning process that emphasizes rote learning. Evidenced by the results of a preliminary study conducted by researchers regarding the concept ability tests on the material events in life, namely from 37 students only 16.22% or as many as 6 people who scored above the Minimum completeness Criteria (KKM) that has been determined that is 73. Objectives of this research is to improve the ability to understand students' concepts by applying cooperative learning models of mind mapping. This type of research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a research design from Kemmis & Mc. Taggart which consists of three cycles. Each cycle begins with planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The participants used in this study were grade V students with 37 students consisting of 15 female students and 22 male students. The instrument used in this research was the concept understanding ability test sheet and the observation sheet of student learning activities during the cooperative learning type mind mapping model. The results of this study indicate that the learning activities of students during the application of the cooperative learning model of mind mapping successfully increased in every aspect, seen from the average results in the first cycle of 40.27%, in the second cycle to 51.48%, and 62.70 % in cycle III. While increasing the ability to understand concepts in the first cycle as much as 43.24%, in the second cycle to 67.56%, and 91, 89% in the third cycle. Based on these results it can be concluded that the application of the cooperative learning model of mind mapping can improve the ability of students to understand concepts in class V.
