    Abstract

    Keterampilan menulis menjadi salah satu aspek penting yang harus dikuasai siswa sekolah dasar, salah satunya dalam menulis karangan deskripsi. Pada kenyataannya, kerap terdapat kesalahan dalam penulisan yang mengindikasikan kesulitan siswa. Maka penelitian ini perlu dilakukan untuk mengetahui lebih dalam terkait kesulitan siswa dalam menulis karangan deskripsi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kesulitan serta faktor penyebab kesulitan siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar dalam menulis karangan deskripsi. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan jumlah subjek sebanyak 20 orang siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu tes dan wawancara kepada guru wali kelas IV, siswa kelas IV dan orang tua siswa kelas IV. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kesulitan siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar dalam menulis karangan deskripsi meliputi (1) Organisasi isi, (2) Penulisan kata, (3) Penggunaan huruf kapital, dan (4) Penggunaan tanda baca. Adapun temuan tersebut disebabkan oleh faktor perkembangan kognitif siswa yang masih dalam tahap operasional konkret, siswa kurang konsentrasi pada saat pembelajaran, kurang berlatih menulis dan siswa kurang terbiasa dalam menggunakan bahasa Indonesia.

    Writing skills are one of the important aspects that must be mastered by elementary school students, one of which is writing descriptive essays.n fact, there are often errors in writing which indicate student difiiculties. So this research needs to be done to find out more about students difficulties in writing descriptive essays.. The purpose of this research is to describe the difficulties and factors that cause difficulties in writing descriptive essays for four grade elementary school students. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with subjects as many as 20 students. Data collection techniques used are tests and interviews with teacher, students, and parents of fourth grade elementary school students. The result showed that the difficulties of fourth grade elementary school students in writing descriptive essays are (1) Content organization, (2) Word writing, (3) Capital letters, and (4) Punctuation marks. The findings are caused by the cognitive development factors of student who are still in the concrete operational stage, student lack concentration during learning, less practice writing, and students are less accustomed to using Indonesian.
