Abstract

Critical thinking skill is an important skill for students to help them think rationally, logic and problem solving oriented. This research llustrate how the senior high school students responses the teacher to have an increasing understanding on the respiratory system topic using predict-observe-explain-explore (POEE) sequence. This research using Quasi- experiment and the sample was collected by purposive sampling. The data were analyzed descriptively using N-gain indicator and analyzed using T-test. Student’s critical thinking skills were observed and analyzed descriptively using percentage comparison. The results is, There is a difference between the treatment group and the control group, the treatment group have an average score N-gain 0.30, the contol group have lower score category with N-gain 0.28. Based on the result of this research, predict-observe-explain-explore (POEE) sequence learning approach is effective in developing students critical thinking skills on students in learning the respiratory system. This is evidenced by the increase in score of the N-Gain, The value of T-test, and the increase in percentage of student’s critical thinking skills. In addition, training or exercising the critical thinking skills, it will help students solve their daily life problem easier.
