Abstract

..... The generator is electrical machinery that has excitation system as a supplier magnet field amplifier. There are many types excitation system in the generator, those are DC (Direct Current) excitation, static excitation, brush excitation and brushless excitation. Darajat Geothermal Power Plant used brushless excitation in its generator. However, sometimes it happens many problems in excitation system, one of them is under excitation. Under excitation is problem where the amplifier current supplied is under than the magnet poles needed, so it will cause the stator on the generator gets hot. It was required limiter for preventing the abnormal under excitation happens. So, the paper discuss Under Excitation Limiter (UEL) control system in generator unit 3 Darajat Geothermal Power Plant. The paper aims to know and to analyize stability of generator that was installed with UEL and without UEL. The method used are modelling and simulation with Matlab Simulink application, observation in the field, and study of literature. In the research results showed that the installed generator with UEL was stable and could produce the voltage and power almost one per unit. However, the generator without UEL got high oscillation on the output graphic.
