    Abstract

    Penelitian ini berjudul Fokalisasi dalam novel The Kite Runner karya Khaled Hosseini berfokus pada bagaimana fokalisasi berkaitan dengan narasi dan pengaruhnya terhadap cerita. Dengan menggunakan teori narasi dan fokalisasi yang diusung oleh Gennete (1980), penelitian ini menemukan bahwa dua tipe fokalisai, yaitu internal dan eksternal, menciptakan efek yang berbeda pada cerita. Kedua efek dari fokalisasi ini membuat cerita jadi lebih berkaitan dan membantu cerita dalam membangkitkan keingintahuan dari pembaca. Efek dari fokalisasi ini secara lebih jauh menekankan isu-isu penting yang ada di dalam cerita. Temuan-temuan ini menunjukan bagaimana fokalisasi pada novel berhasil mengajak pembaca untuk bersimpati terhadap aspek kemanusiaan yang digambarkan di dalam cerita. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberi wawasan tentang penggunaan fokalisasi dan pengaruhnya terhadap narasi. -----
    This research entitled “Focalization in Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner” focuses on how focalization relates to the narrative and its effect towards the story. This research employs Genette’s theory of narrative and focalization. The findings show that the two types of focalization: internal and external, create different effects on the narrative. There are two major effects on the story; the employment of internal focalization manages to make the story become more relatable while the use of external focalization helps the story evoke the reader’s curiosity. In addition, focalization also highlights the prominent issues found within the story. Ultimately, the focalization in the novel The Kite Runner attempts to invite the reader to fell sympathy towards the human aspect offered in the story.
