Abstract

Berdasarkan hasil studi pendahuluan ditemukan bahwa kemampuan kognitif dan keterampilan proses sains siswa masih rendah.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan kognitif dan keterampilan proses sains siswa setelah diterapkan pendekatan Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) pada materi suhu dan kalor. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa SMA kelas X dengan sampel satu kelas yang berjumlah 30 orang. Metode yang digunakandalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian One Group Pretest Posttest Design.Instrumen penelitian berupa tes kemampuan kognitif berbentuk pilihan ganda sebanyak 26 butir soaldan tes keterampilan proses sains berbentuk pilihan ganda sebanyak 18 butir soal. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan kemampuan kognitif siswa pada kategori sedang untuk peningkatan kemampuan kognitif dan keterampilan proses sains siswa dengan perolehan <g>keduanya yaitu sebesar 0,32. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pendekatan SWH dapat meningkatkan kemampuan kognitif dan keterampilan proses sains siswa pada materi suhu dan kalor. Kata Kunci : Pendekatan Science Writing Heuristik; Kemampuan Kognitif; Keterampilan Proses sains; Suhu dan Kalor, Based on the preliminary study found that students’ cognitive ability and science process skills are still low. This research aims to determine the increasements ofstudents’ cognitive abilities and science process skills after the implementation of Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) Approach on the Temperature and Heat. The subjects in this research consist of tenth-grade high school students with a sample of one class which numbered 30 students. The method that utilized in this research is quantitative metodhs and the research design is One Group Pretest Posttest Design. The instrument in this research is a test that consists of 26 multiple choice items aboutcognitive ability and 18 multiple choice items aboutscience process skills. The result of this research shows that there is the improvement of students’ cognitive ability and science process skills in intermediate category with the acquisition of <g> 0.32 for both. It can be concluded that the implementation of SWH approach is able to improve students’ cognitive abilities and science process skills in the Temperature and Heat subject.
