Abstract

Batik Garutan has evolved and persisted until today, both of motives, colors and other
elements. The existence of Batik Garutan has become the identity of Garut Regency, but
in fact Batik Garutan not widely known by the society in Garut Regency. The results of
research showed a lack of knowledge and understanding of society about Batik Garutan.
The creation of the Garut Sheep Fighter horn design motive is one way to develop a
ornamental motive of Batik Garutan. The theme of design motive development based on
the idea of cultural exploration in Garut Regency, which is combine of Batik Garut
culture with Garut Sheep Fighter culture. The ornamental motive design of batik is made
by looking at a variety of sheep horn shapes, the names of the motive was taken from the
name of each Garut Sheep Fighter horn. The design motive created aims to develop and
preserve the ornamental motive of batik in the area of Garut Regency. The Methodology
used in creating a design motive is the creation methodology guided by research first.
Before creation of the design work, there is research about Batik Garutan, both of
history, batik development, until the characteristics (shape, color, etc.) attached to Batik
Garutan. The data which collected, become a guide for the creation process of a design
motive. After the design motive work finished created with variation color and
implementation design from the motif created, it was just took a most voting about design
option with collecting 12 respondents from Batik Garutan expert, student from Garut
Regency and student from SMPN 1 Garut Sukawening. The results of respondent option
then refined again with help of advice given by the Batik Garutan artisans who are
experts. Based on the results of discussion, horn motive design which created had a
elements of art and basic principles of design that can be studied clearly.;---Batik Garutan telah berkembang dan tetap bertahan sampai saat ini, baik dari motif,
warna maupun unsur lainnya. Keberadaan batik Garutan memang sudah menjadi identitas
Kabupaten Garut akan tetapi nampaknya berbeda dengan kondisi di lapangan. Batik
Garutan tidak banyak diketahui oleh masyarakat dan generasi muda Kabupaten Garut.
Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan menunjukkan kurangnya pemahaman batik Garutan yang
masyarakat ketahui. Penciptaan desain motif tanduk Domba Adu Garut adalah salah satu
cara untuk mengembangkan motif hias batik Garutan. Pengambilan tema pengembangan
desain motif didasari oleh gagasan eksplorasi budaya Kabupaten Garut yaitu memadukan
budaya batik Garut dengan budaya Domba Adu Garut, sehingga terciptalah desain motif
hias batik dengan macam-macam tanduk dari domba dan setiap nama motif diambil dari
nama-nama setiap tanduk Domba Adu Garut. Desain motif yang diciptakan bertujuan
untuk mengembangkan dan melestarikan motif hias batik daerah Kabupaten Garut.
Metode yang digunakan dalam metodologi penciptaan desain motif adalah metodologi
penciptaan yang dipandu oleh penelitian terlebih dahulu. Sebelum pembuatan karya
desain, terdapat penelitian mengenai batik Garutan baik dari sejarah, perkembangan batik,
hingga karakteristik (bentuk, warna, dan lain-lain) yang melekat pada batik Garutan. Data
yang diperoleh tersebut menjadi panduan untuk proses penciptaan desain motif.
Kemudian setelah karya desain motif selesai diciptakan dengan variasi warna dan desain
implementasi dari motif yang diciptakan, dilakukan pengambilan suara terbanyak
mengenai pilihan desain dengan mengumpulkan 12 responden dari ahli batik Garutan,
mahasiswa Kab. Garut dan siswa SMPN 1 Sukawening Garut. Hasil pilihan responden,
selanjutnya disempurnakan kembali dengan pendapat dari pengrajin Batik Garutan yang
sudah ahli. Berdasarkan hasil pembahasan, desain motif tanduk yang diciptakan memiliki
unsur-unsur seni dan prinsip-prinsip dasar desain yang dapat dikaji dengan jelas.
