Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir aljabar penting untuk siswa SMP sebab siswa SMP khususnya siswa kelas VII mengalami masa transisi dari kebiasaan belajar di jenjang SD yang selalu menggunakan aritmetika, sehingga pada saat di jenjang SMP mereka kesulitan ketika menghadapi soal bentuk aljabar. Pada kenyataannya kemampuan berpikir aljabar siswa SMP masih kurang. Selain kemampuan berpikir aljabar, siswa SMP khususnya siswa kelas VII masih kurang memiliki kemandirian belajar (self-regulated learning). Salah satu yang menjadi faktor adalah kebiasaan belajar di jenjang SD yang menggunakan metode ceramah dan tidak melibatkan siswa secara aktif dalam proses pembelajaran. Sehingga siswa terbiasa belajar dengan mengandalkan bantuan dari guru. Berdasarkan permasalahan-permasalahan tersebut, guru perlu melakukan inovasi dalam proses pembelajaran. Cara yang dapat dilakukan guru adalah memilih suatu model pembelajaran yang cocok untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir aljabar (KBA) dan self-regulated learning (SRL) siswa. Model pembelajaran yang melibatkan siswa secara aktif dalam menemukan pengetahuan baru adalah model pembelajaran yang tepat dalam meningkatkan KBA dan SRL siswa. Salah satu model pembelajaran yang dapat membangkitkan aktivitas siswa adalah model pembelajaran CORE (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending). Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji penerapan pembelajaran CORE (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending) dalam meningkatkan Kemampuan Berpikir Aljabar (KBA) dan Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) siswa SMP. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh pembelajaran CORE terhadap pencapaian dan peningkatan KBA dan SRL secara keseluruhan dan berdasarkan Pengetahuan Awal Matematis (PAM) siswa. Melalui penelitian kuasi eksperimen dilibatkan 80 orang siswa SP kelas VII yang mewakili sekolah di Baleendah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Pencapaian dan peningkatan KBA siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran CORE lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran biasa baik secara keseluruhan maupun berdasarkan kelompok PAM; 2) Tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pencapaian dan peningkatan KBA siswa dikelompok PAM atas dalam pembelajaran CORE dengan siswa dikelompok PAM tengah, namun terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pencapaian KBA siswa kelompok PAM tengah begitu juga kelompok PAM bawah; 3) Pencapaian dan peningkatan SRL siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran CORE lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran biasa baik secara keseluruhan maupun berdasarkan kelompok PAM; 4) Tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pencapaian dan peningkatan SRL siswa kelompok PAM atas dengan siswa kelompok PAM tengah dalam pembelajaran CORE, namun terdapat perbedaan signifikan pencapaian SRL antara siswa kelompok PAM atas dengan bawah, begitu juga kelompok PAM tengah dengan bawah. ; Algebra’s thinking ability is important for Junior High School Student because they especially seventh grader will through a transition in their learning habit in elementary school that always use arithmetic method, so when they are in Junior High School they sometimes find difficultness in Algebra’s question. In reality Junior High School’s Algebra Thinking Ability is still low. And they also have less Self Regulated Learning especially in seventh grader. One of become the most influence factor is Speech Method that is used in learning in Elementary School, because of the Students become inactive in learning process. so asking for help to the teacher becomes a habit. According to the problems, the teacher needs to do a innovation in learning process. one of the innovation is by choosing a learning model that suitable to be applied in improving Algebras Thinking Ability ( ATA ) and Student’s Self Regulated Learning ( SRL ). The learning model that make the students more active in finding out a new knowledge is a learning model that is suitable in improving Student’s ATA and SRL. One of learning model that is able to rise up student’s activity is CORE ( Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending ) learning model. This research is supposed to find out the CORE’s (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending) application In improving junior high school student’s Algebra thinking ability and Self Regulated Learning. This research is also supposed to find out the influence of CORE learning in achievement and development of Algebra Thinking Ability and Self Regulated Learning totally, and according to Student’s Mathematical Basic Knowledge. 80 students are included in this Quasi Experimental Research and they are students of Bale Endah Junior High School. And the result of the research shows us that : 1) the Achievement of student’s Algebras Thinking Ability those are treated by CORE is better than the student those are treated by conventional method, totally or according to Mathematical basic ability 2) there are o significance difference between Student’s Algebra Thinking Ability in Mathematical Basic Ability those are treated by CORE with middle Student’s Mathematical Basic Ability, but there are significance difference in the achievement. 3) the improvement of Student’s Mathematical Basic Ability those are treated by CORE is better than the student those are treated by conventional method totally or group. 4) there are no significance differences between the improvement of Algebra Thinking Ability of student’s Mathematical Basic Ability in middle or Low Students , so does Student’s Mathematical Basic Ability in Middle and Low Students.
