Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memperoleh gambaran tentang implementasi model pembelajaran berbasis proyek (PjBL) dengan pendekatan science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) untuk meningkatkan literasi sains siswa SMP. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan tipe nonrandomized control group pretest–posttest design. Implementasi dilaksanakan di kelas VII SMP IT di kabupaten Sukabumi terhadap 85 siswa yang terdiri dari tiga kelas. Dua kelas eksperimen (kelompok laki-laki, N = 29 dan kelompok perempuan, N = 28) dan satu kelas kontrol (kelompok perempuan, N = 28). Data dari tes awal dan tes akhir digunakan untuk melihat perolehan literasi sains siswa setelah implementasi model. Data yang sama diperoleh pula dari kelas kontrol. Keterlaksanaan pembelajaran di observasi melalui lembar observasi. Tanggapan guru dan siswa terhadap PjBL STEM diperoleh berdasarkan wawancara guru dan angket tanggapan siswa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data diperoleh rata-rata N-gain literasi sains kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,31 dengan kategori sedang dan kelas kontrol sebesar 0,22 dengan kategori rendah. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan literasi sains kelas eksperimen secara signifikan lebih baik dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Peningkatan literasi sains siswa kelompok laki-laki dan kelompok perempuan sama-sama mengalami peningkatan dengan rerata N-gain yaitu 0,36 dan 0,31 (dalam kategori sedang) untuk aspek pengetahuan, dan kompetensi. Skor sikap sains, kelompok perempuan berbeda signifikan dari kelompok laki-laki. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa PjBL STEM lebih dapat meningkatkan literasi sains siswa SMP pada tema pencemaran udara dibandingkan kelas tanpa menggunakan pendekatan STEM. --- This study was conducted to have a description about implementation of PjBL model with STEM approach to improve science literacy for junior high school students. The theme used in this project was air pollution. The method used was quasi-experimental with the type of nonrandomized control group pretest–posttest design and was implemented in grade VII of the integrated islamic school at Sukabumi. The subjects were 85 students consisting of three groups, two groups experiment (male, N = 29 and female, N = 28) and group control (female, N = 28). The data collection was done by pretest-posttest and used for scientific literacy acquisition after implementation of PjBL model. The data was also from the control group. The learning process is observed through the observation sheet. The response of teachers and students to the PjBL STEM obtained by interviewing the teacher and the student questionnaires. Based on the result obtained that an average N-gain of experiment group was 0.31 with the medium category and 0.22 for control group with a lower category. t-test results showed that increasing scientific literacy experiment group was significantly better than the control group. Based on the gender, N-gain of male groups was 0.36 and 0.31 for female groups with medium category on knowledge and competence. t-test results showed that increasing scientific literacy of male groups and female does not significant. Attitude aspect of science, female groups differ significantly from male groups. The student responses showed almost all of the students agreed to the implementation of the PjBL STEM and gain great new experiences that stages of learning that lead to be interested and motivated in learning. Based on these result, it could be concluded that there were significant differences on scientific literacy of students on the theme of air pollution using project-based learning model with STEM approach compared to classroom without the use of the STEM approach.
