Abstract
Penelitian ini berawal dari keresahan penulis terhadap permasalahan yang terjadi di kelas VIII-9 SMP Negeri 49 Bandung terkait dengan keterampilan bertanya siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Permasalahan ini merupakan temuan dari observasi yang dilakukan pada beberapa kali pertemuan dalam rentang waktu bulan Februari sampai Mei 2015. Indikator permasalahan yang dijumpai adalah keterampilan bertanya siswa yang masih relatif rendah, dimana banyak pemberian materi yang diberikan guru sehingga yang tercipta dalam proses pembelajaran adalah seperti teacher centered. Kemudian siswa tidak terbiasa mengembangkan keterampilan bertanya yang dituangkan dalam pembelajaran IPS. Padahal pada prinsipnya belajar sambil melakukan (learning by doing) akan lebih memiliki daya ingat yang panjang, selain itu akan memperlihatkan sejauh mana siswa dapat membangun keterampilan bertanya. Meninjau permasalahan yang akan diteliti berkaitan dengan proses pembelajaran, maka peneliti memilih Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan desain penelitian Kemiss dan Taggart dalam 2 siklus. Alternatif pemecahan masalah yang dipilih yaitu melalui penggunaan metode tanya jawab dengan teknik probing prompting dan Lembar Kegiatan Siswa (LKS) sesuai dengan tema pembelajaran diharapkan keterampilan bertanya siswa menjadi meningkat. Pelaksanaan kegiatan belajar menggunakan metode tanya jawab dengan teknik probing prompting sebagai alternatif meningkatkan keterampilan bertanya siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS dapat dikatakan berhasil. Adapun peningkatan keterampilan bertanya siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS dapat terlihat dari beberapa indikator yaitu mampu memberikan pertanyaan lanjutan yang akan mendorong siswa untuk lebih mendalami jawabannya terhadap pertanyaan sebelumnya, dapat menjawab pertanyaan atau mengungkapkan berdasarkan pemikirannya. Seluruh aspek tersebut mengalami perkembangan dari siklus pertama hingga siklus ketiga dari kualitas cukup, menjadi baik. Temuannya, penggunaan metode tanya jawab dengan teknik probing prompting dapat meningkatkan keterampilan bertanya siswa pada pembelajaran IPS. Kata Kunci: Teknik Probing Prompting dan Keterampilan Bertanya Siswa This research starts from the writer’s anxiety over the problems of students’ questioning skills in learning Social Studies in VIII-9 class at SMP Negeri 49 Bandung. These problems are found in the observation that has been conducted from February to May 2015. The indicators of problems encountered are the students’ questioning skills which are still relatively low in which there are many learning materials provided by the teacher so that the learning process that is created is like ‘teacher centered’. Afterwards, the students are not accustomed to develop their questioning skills as outlined in learning Social Studies. Principally, learning by doing will increase students’ memories; moreover, it will show the extent to which students can build their questioning skills. Considering the problems that will be examined regarding the learning process, the researcher chooses a Classroom Action Research(CAR) with Kemiss and Taggart research design in 2 cycles. The selected alternative solutions are through the use of question and answer method with probing prompting technique and Student Worksheet (SW) in accordance with the learning topic to improve the students’ questioning skills. The implementation of learning activities using the question and answer method with probing prompting technique as an alternative to improve the students’ questioning skills in learning Social Studies can be successful. The improvement of the students’ questioning skills in learning Social Studies can be seen from some indicators such as the students are able to extend advanced questions that will encourage students to learn the answer of the previous question, moreover, they can answer the question or express the answer based on their thoughts. All of those aspects have evolved from the first to the third cycle, starting from sufficient to good quality. The findings reveal that the use of question and answer method with probing prompting technique can improve students’ questioning skills in learning Social Studies.
