Abstract

Banyak komik di dunia yang populer dan laku di pasaran, bahkan mendapatkan banyak penghargaan, salah satunya yaitu komik “Hellboy” karya Mike Mignola yang berjenis komik Amerika keluaran “Dark Horse Books”. Komik Hellboy mendapatkan banyak penghargaan sebagai komik terbaik dan karakter terfavorit. Selain itu komiknya dibuat dua film layar lebar pada tahun 2004 dan 2008 yang dibintangi Ron Perlman sebagai pemeran karakternya. Selain itu dibuat pula dua DVD film animasi, serta dua game yang diangkat oleh Konami Jepang. Menurut McCloud, komik adalah gambar serta lambang-lambang yang terjukstaposisi dalam urutan tertentu, untuk menyampaikan informasi dan/atau mencapai tanggapan estetis dari pembaca. Oleh sebab itu, penulis tertarik untuk melakukan analisis visual terhadap komik “Hellboy – Seed of Destruction” karya Mike Mignola ini. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode ini dilakukan dengan cara mengumpulkan data yang diperoleh melalui studi kepustakaan dan dokumentasi karya. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini meliputi unsur visual komik “Hellboy – Seed of Destruction” yang meliputi analisis panel, komposisi, pengambilan adegan, ekspresi wajah, bahasa tubuh, latar belakang (background), efek visual garis, gang/parit, kotak narasi, balon kata, efek suara/onomatopoeia, dan simbol visual/quipu. Selain itu, penulis meneliti bagaimana visualisasi tokoh pada komik “Hellboy – Seed of Destruction”. Penelitian yang telah dilakukan menghasilkan penjelasan mengenai analisis panel, gang/parit, kotak narasi, balon kata, efek suara, simbol visual, tipografi, komposisi, pengambilan adegan, bahasa tubuh, ekspresi wajah, efek visual garis dalam komik dan efek garis latar belakang, dikombinasikan dengan cukup baik dengan gaya gambar semi realis. Selain itu, penggambaran karakter bergaya semi realis dengan proporsi tubuh normal namun yang ditonjolkan dalam komik ini adalah karakter-karakter setan atau monster yang menyeramkan dengan pengaturan warna-warna yang kontras dan gelap. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan kepada masyarakat, khususnya para pembaca komik. Adapun hal lain yang penulis harapkan kepada penerbit agar menyeleksi dan memberi rating pada komik-komik luar karena tidak semua komik layak untuk dikonsumsi oleh anak-anak. Comics Hellboy received many awards as the best comic and most favorite character. Moreover, the comic was made into two feature films in 2004 and 2008, starring Ron Perlman as Hellboy roles. In addition,it also made into two DVDs of animated films, as well as two games produced by Konami Japan. According to McCloud, comics are images and symbols that was juctapositioned in a particular sequence to convey information and/or achieve aesthetic responses from readers. Therefore, the authors are interested in performing visual analysis of the comic "Hellboy - Seed of Destruction" by Mike Mignola's. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative analytic approach. This method is done by collecting data obtained through library research and documentation work. The problems of this study include the visual elements of the comic "Hellboy - Seed of Destruction" which includes a panel analysis, composition, scene retrieval, facial expressions, body language, background (background), visual effects line, alley / trench, narrative boxes, balloons words, sound effects / onomatopoeia, and visual symbols / Quipu. In addition, the author examines how visualization characters in the comic "Hellboy - Seed of Destruction". Research that has been done, resulting in a description of the panel analysis, alley / trench, narrative boxes, word balloons, sound effects, visual symbols, typography, composition, scene retrieval, body language, facial expressions, visual effects and comic lines in the background line effect, combined with a good enough picture of semi realist style. In addition, semi-realist style of character portrayal with normal body proportions but what we find mostly in the comic characters are evil or scary monsters with the contrast and dark color setting. The results of this study are expected to provide knowledge to the peoples, especially the comic reader. As for the other things that the authors expect that the publisher make the selection and give a rating on the foreign comics because not all comics proper for consumption by children.
