Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh adanya permasalahan dalam proses pembelajaran, terutama dalam kemampuan membaca pemahaman. Siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami isi bacaan, menyimpulkan bacaan serta memberikan saran sesuai dengan permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam bacaan. Hal tersebut salah satunya disebabkan oleh metode pembelajaran yang kurang menarik minat siswa. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini berfokus pada peningkatan kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks persuasif melalui pendekatan Teaching at the Right Level pada siswa kelas VIII. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan hasil pembelajaran kemampuan membaca pemahaman dengan penerapan pendekatan Teaching at the Right Level pada setiap siklus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memberikan solusi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks persuasif siswa melalui pendekatan Teaching at the Right Level. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas desain Kemmis dan McTaggart. Pembelajaran dilakukan sebanyak dua siklus, masing-masing siklus terdiri atas 2 pertemuan. Subjek penelitian ini ialah siswa kelas VIII SMPN 1 Tarogong Kidul Kota Garut yang terdiri atas 36 orang. Data penelitian diperoleh dari hasil wawancara, observasi, dan tes kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Berdasarkan tes kemampuan membaca pemahaman pada siklus 1 diperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 69,80 dengan 41,67% siswa tuntas sedangkan pada siklus 2 diperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 84,83 dengan 88,89% siswa tuntas. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan Teaching at the Right Level dapat membantu meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa. Students experience difficulties in understanding the content of texts, concluding readings, and providing suggestions according to the problems faced in the texts. One of the reasons for this is the learning method which fails to attract students' interest. Therefore, this research focuses on improving the reading comprehension skills of persuasive texts through the Teaching at the Right Level approach in eighth-grade students. The problem formulation in this research is how the planning, implementation, and results of reading comprehension learning are with the application of the Teaching at the Right Level approach in each cycle. The purpose of this study is to provide a solution to improve students' reading comprehension skills of persuasive texts through the Teaching at the Right Level approach. This research uses the Classroom Action Research method with the Kemmis and McTaggart design. The learning was carried out in two cycles, each cycle consisting of 2 meetings. The subjects of this research were 36 eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Tarogong Kidul, Garut City. Research data were obtained from interviews, observations, and student reading comprehension tests. The data were then analyzed using quantitative and qualitative analysis. Based on the reading comprehension test results in cycle 1, an average score of 69.80 was obtained with 41.67% of students completing the test, while in cycle 2, the average score was 84.83 with 88.89% of students completing the test. Thus, it can be concluded that the Teaching at the Right Level approach can help improve students' reading comprehension skills.
