Abstract
Karakter peduli lingkungan dapat ditingkatkan pada diri siswa, salah satunya melalui pembelajaran IPA di sekolah. Dengan model pembelajaran berbasis kontekstual, guru diharapkan dapat mendorong siswa menjadi individu yang berperan aktif dalam menjaga lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk : (1) Mengidentifikasi kondisi faktual model pembelajaran IPA untuk meningkatkan karakter peduli lingkungan; (2) Menghasilkan pengembangan model hipotetik (hypothetical model) ECOCARE berbasis pendekatan kontekstual dalam pembelajaran IPA untuk peningkatan karakter peduli lingkungan; (3) Menguji efektivitas model ECOCARE berbasis pendekatan kontekstual dalam pembelajaran IPA untuk meningkatkan karakter peduli lingkungan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan /Research and Development (R & D) dari Borg and Gall (2003). Produk dari penelitian dan pengembangan ini adalah model pembelajaran ECOCARE. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII di SMP Terpadu Baiturrahman. Data diperoleh melalui dokumentasi, observasi, wawancara, dan angket, selanjutnya dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) Kondisi pembelajaran IPA yang selama ini berlangsung yang berkaitan dengan karakter peduli lingkungan menunjukkan belum terstrukturnya proses pembelajaran, kurangnya pemahaman siswa tentang pentingnya karakter peduli lingkungan, serta tidak adanya evaluasi berkala terhadap internalisasi nilai karakter peduli lingkungan; 2) Desain model kontekstual ECOCARE untuk meningkatkan karakter peduli lingkungan, terdiri dari komponen utama yang diterapkan melalui tujuh tahapan atau sintaks, yaitu Exploration, Connection, Observation,Collaboration, Application, Reflection, dan Evaluation. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian validator model pembelajaran ECOCARE layak digunakan; 3) Model ECOCARE terbukti efektif secara signifikan dalam meningkatkan karakter peduli lingkungan dan hasil belajar siswa. Uji-t berpasangan pada hasil angket karakter peduli lingkungan menunjukkan perbedaan yang sangat signifikan secara statistik antara kondisi sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan model ECOCARE (p-value = 0.000; t-statistik = -17.896). Efektivitas peningkatan karakter peduli lingkungan juga diperkuat oleh nilai rata-rata N-Gain sebesar 0,741, yang dikategorikan sebagai tinggi. Adapun pada aspek tes kognitif, rata-rata N-Gain menunjukkan nilai 0,615, yang masuk dalam kategori sedang. Selain itu, evaluasi positif dari siswa sebagaimana tercermin dari hasil angket respons siswa turut mengindikasikan efektivitas model ini. Environmental care character can be cultivated among students, one of which is through science (IPA) education in schools. By implementing the ECOCARE contextual-based learning model, teachers are expected to encourage students to become active participants in environmental preservation. This study aims to: (1) Identify the actual conditions of science learning models in enhancing students’ environmental care character; (2) Develop a hypothetical ECOCARE contextual-based learning model in science education to promote environmental care character; and (3) Test the effectiveness of the ECOCARE contextual-based learning model in science learning to improve environmental care character. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method proposed by Borg and Gall (2003). The product of this study is the ECOCARE learning model. The research subjects were seventh-grade students at SMP Terpadu Baiturrahman. Data were collected through documentation, observation, interviews, and questionnaires, and analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results of the study revealed that: (1) The current implementation of science learning related to environmental care character is not yet well-structured, students' understanding of the importance of environmental care character remains low, and there is a lack of regular evaluation regarding the internalization of environmental values; (2) The ECOCARE contextual-based learning model design for enhancing environmental care character comprises key components implemented through seven stages or syntaxes: Exploration, Connection, Observation, Collaboration, Application, Reflection, and Evaluation. Based on expert validation, the ECOCARE learning model is deemed feasible for implementation; (3) The ECOCARE model has been proven to be significantly effective in enhancing students' environmental care character and learning outcomes. A paired-sample t-test on the environmental care character data revealed a statistically significant difference between the pre- and post-intervention conditions using the ECOCARE model (p-value = 0.000; t-statistic = -17.896). The effectiveness of this improvement is further supported by an average N-Gain score of 0.741, which falls into the high category. In terms of cognitive performance, the average N-Gain score was 0.615, classified as moderate. Moreover, the model’s effectiveness is also evidenced by the positive student evaluations, as reflected in the results of the student response questionnaire
