Abstract

Penciptaan ini mengkaji peristiwa kerja rodi pada masa kolonial Belanda di Indonesia, sebuah periode sejarah yang kelam namun penting untuk diingat. Kerja rodi merupakan bentuk eksploitasi tenaga kerja yang memengaruhi kehidupan masyarakat Indonesia di masa itu. Dalam konteks seni, peristiwa ini memiliki nilai signifikan untuk divisualisasikan melalui karya ilustrasi. Tujuan utama penciptaan ini adalah untuk mengenang kembali sejarah kerja rodi dan menyajikannya dalam bentuk karya seni yang edukatif. Penelitian ini juga berupaya menyampaikan bagaimana kerja rodi memengaruhi masyarakat Indonesia serta perubahan yang dihadapi mereka selama masa penjajahan. Alasan dilaksanakannya penciptaan ini adalah untuk menjaga ingatan kolektif bangsa tentang perjuangan yang pernah dialami serta memberikan wawasan baru melalui medium visual. Seni ilustrasi dipilih karena dinilai efektif dalam menyampaikan narasi sejarah secara menarik dan mudah dipahami. Metode penciptaan yang digunakan meliputi observasi dan studi pustaka mengenai sejarah kerja rodi. Setelah itu, data yang diperoleh diolah menjadi karya ilustrasi digital menggunakan teknik outline, halftone, blok, dan siluet, dengan memanfaatkan perangkat lunak Clip Studio Paint dan Adobe Photoshop. Hasil karya dicetak secara digital dalam delapan bagian yang terhubung, setiap bagian terdiri dari dua lapisan akrilik bening. Temuan penciptaan ini menunjukkan bahwa karya ilustrasi mampu menghadirkan kembali peristiwa sejarah dengan visual yang kuat, menghubungkan konsep kerja rodi dengan bentuk fisik karya secara efektif.

This creation examines the events of forced labor during the Dutch colonial period in Indonesia, a dark but important historical period to remember. Corporal labor was a form of labor exploitation that affected the lives of Indonesian people at that time. In the context of art, this event has significant value to be visualized through illustration work. The main aim of this creation is to recall the history of Rodi's work and present it in the form of an educational work of art. This research also seeks to convey how corvee work influenced Indonesian society and the changes they faced during the colonial period. The reason for carrying out this creation is to maintain the nation's collective memory about the struggles that have been experienced and to provide new insights through visual media. Illustration art was chosen because it was considered effective in conveying historical narratives in an interesting and easy to understand manner. The creation method used includes observation and literature study regarding the history of Rodi's work. After that, the data obtained was processed into digital illustration works using outline, halftone, block and silhouette techniques, using Clip Studio Paint and Adobe Photoshop software. The work is digitally printed in eight connected parts, each part consisting of two layers of clear acrylic. The findings of this creation show that illustration work is able to recreate historical events with strong visuals, effectively connecting the concept of forced labor with the physical form of the work.
