    Abstract

    Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kemampuan representasi matematis siswa sekolah dasar yang masih tergolong rendah dalam pembelajaran matematika. Hal tersebut terjadi karena siswa kurang diberi kesempatan untuk mengembangkan kemampuan representasinya. Selain itu, adanya keterbatasan media pembelajaran yang membuat proses pembelajaran menjadi kurang efektif terutama pada materi pecahan. Penting bagi pendidik untuk menerapkan media pembelajaran agar proses belajar menjadi lebih efektif serta dapat memfasilitasi siswa untuk mengembangkan kemampuan representasi matematis. Oleh karena itu, penelitan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa melalui penggunaan media PhET Simulations. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent control group. Hasil penelitian berdasarkan analisis data pertama menunjukan penerapan media PhET Simulations terbukti dapat meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa. Hal tersebut terlihat dari rerata nilai pretest kelas eksperimen sebesar 41 dan rerata nilai posttest sebesar 81 memperoleh selisih 40,0. Selain itu, analisis data kedua menunjukan terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa antara yang memperoleh pembelajaran menggunakan media PhET Simulations dan siswa yang tidak menggunakan media PhET Simulations. Perbedaan peningkatan terlihat dari rerata perhitungan indeks gain pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,68 dan kelas kontrol sebesar 0,50 dengan selisih sebesar 0,18. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, terbukti bahwa penggunaan media PhET Simulations dapat meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa.

    This study is motivated by the mathematical representation skills of elementary school students who are still relatively low in learning mathematics. This happens because students are not given the opportunity to develop their representation skills. In addition, there are limitations of learning media that make the learning process less effective, especially in fraction material. It is important for educators to apply learning media so that the learning process becomes more effective and can facilitate students to develop mathematical representation skills. Therefore, this research aims to improve students' mathematical representation skills through the use of PhET Simulations media. This research used quasi-experimental method with nonequivalent control group design. The results of the study based on the first data analysis showed that the application of PhET Simulations media was proven to improve students' mathematical representation skills. This can be seen from the average pretest score of the experimental class of 41 and the average posttest score of 81 obtained a difference of 40.0. In addition, the second data analysis shows that there is a difference in the improvement of students' mathematical representation skills between those who get learning using PhET Simulations media and students who do not use PhET Simulations media. The difference in improvement can be seen from the average calculation of the gain index in the experimental class of 0.68 and the control class of 0.50 with a difference of 0,18. Based on the results of the study, it is evident that the use of PhET Simulations media can improve students' mathematical representation skills.
