Abstract
Independence is an important thing that must be owned by someone. The independence that is instilled in children will make it easier for them to carry out their lives in the present and into adulthood. However, in practice, parenting is influenced by various factors, one of which is the influence of the family environment. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in children's independence in the environmentnuclear family andextended family. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The collection technique used was interviews. Respondents are two people (mothers) from the familynuclear family andextended family. The results of this study are children who are in the environmentnuclear family norextended family is able to be independent. However, the presence of other family members becomes an obstacle for children to be independent. This is because other family members always follow the wishes of the child. Therefore, children who are able to act independently change when they are in the environmentextended family. The independence of children in parentingnuclear family tend to develop faster than children who are in the environmentextended family. This is due to differences in attitudes applied by parents and other family members. Therefore, as a parent it is important to make an agreement in advance regarding the parenting pattern that will be applied both with your partner and other family members.
