Abstract

This study is aimed at exploring the effects of pencak silat competitive oriented and pencak silat art oriented training on respect and responsibility toward students. An experimental method was conducted for this study. Sixty student from SMPN 22 Bandung participated as the subjects in this study. A non randomized pretest-posttest design was used in this study with applied some treatment on pencak silat skills along with some moral values included in pencak silat. Multivariate analysis was used to detect the effects on respect and responsibility among the subjects in the experimental group. Multivariate analysis revealed significant differences: (1) there is significant difference effect between the experimental group and the control group on respect and responsibility (2) there is no significant difference on respect between pencak silat competitive oriented and pencak silat art oriented training (3) there is no significant difference on responsibility between pencak silat competitive oriented and pencak silat art oriented training. From the result of this study it was that pencak silat should become an integral part of general education system on fostering character development.
