Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan, dengan dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya berbahasa Inggris dalam salah satu keterampilan abad-21. Perkembangan bahasa merupakan hal yang sangat penting sebagai ciri kemampuan komunikatif siswa. Namun, berdasarkan observasi pembelajaraan Bahasa Inggris, terdapat siswa kelas III SD belum memiliki keterampilan berbicara. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengatasi hambatan pada proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, terutama pada keterampilan berbicara (speaking skill), dengan menggunakan Story-Based Pedagogy di kelas III SD. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) memperoleh proses mengenai upaya peningkatan speaking skill siswa kelas III SD dengan menggunakan Story-Based Pedagogy dan 2) untuk memperoleh gambaran tentang hasil pembelajaran speaking skill dengan menggunakan Story-Based Pedagogy di kelas III SD. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (Classroom Action Research), dengan design penelitian menggunakan kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian ini melibatkan 6 orang siswa kelas III SD. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1) adanya peningkatan pada aspek keterampilan berbicara dengan indikator, aspek kelancaran (fluency), aspek kosa kata (vocabulary), dan pelafalan (pronunciation) dan 2) aspek membawakan cerita dengan indikator, tidak gugup, intonasi suara, dan ekspresi wajah. Semua anak dalam prosesnya dapat memahami hal apa saja yang harus ia perbaiki pada siklus sebelumnya sehingga terjadinya peningkatan pada setiap indikator pada siklus ke II. ------ This research was conducted, with the background of the importance of speaking English in one of the 21st century skills. Language development is very important as a characteristic of student’s communicative abilities. However, based on the observation of English learning, there are third grade elementary school students who do not yet have speaking skills. Therefore, this research was carried out to overcome obstacles in the English learning process, especially in speaking skills, using Story-Based Pedagogy in third grade elementary school. This study aims to 1) obtain a process regarding efforts to improve the speaking skills of third grade elementary school students using Story-Based Pedagogy and 2) to obtain an overview of the learning outcomes of speaking skills using Story-Based Pedagogy in third grade elementary schools. The research method used in this research is classroom action research, with a qualitative descriptive research design. This study involved 6 third grade elementary school students. The results showed that 1) there was an increase in aspects of speaking skills with indicators, aspects of fluency, aspects of vocabulary, and pronunciation. and 2) aspects of telling stories with indicators, not thinking, voice intonation, and facial expressions. All children in the process can understand what things they must improve in the previous cycle so that there is an increase in each indicator in the second cycle
