Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kenyataan bahwa pembelajaran IPS di tingkat SMP/ MTs selama ini masih sering menerapkan proses pembelajaran yang berpusat pada guru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur keefektifan model pembelajaran learning cycle 7-E terhadap penguasaan konsep bentuk muka bumi dalam mata pelajaran IPS. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan manfaat baik secara teoritis maupun praktis untuk meningkatkan penguasaan konsep peserta didik pada mata pelajaran IPS di sekolah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode kuasi eksperimen. Desain eksperimen yang penulis gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah nonequivalent (pre test and post test) control group design. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah peserta didik yang ada di kelas VII SMP Negeri 52 Kota Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2013-2014 yang sedang mengikuti pelajaran IPS. Jumlah keseluruhan untuk kelas VII di SMP Negeri 52 Kota Bandung yakni sebanyak 10 kelas dan hanya 2 kelas yang dijadikan sebagai subjek penelitian dengan pertimbangan, diantaranya; guru IPS yang mengajar di kelas tersebut adalah sama, jumlah siswa yang sama, sama-sama belum memperoleh materi bentuk muka bumi, rerata nilai ulangan harian pada materi bentuk muka bumi tahun ajaran 2012-2013 relatif sama, dan model pembelajaran learning cycle 7-E belum diterapkan di kedua kelas tersebut. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara, dokumen, dan tes. Tahap pengolahan data yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah penyajian data, uji prasyarat, uji hipotesis dan diakhiri dengan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran learning cycle 7-E dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep peserta didik terutama dalam aspek interaksi dan komunikasi kelompok, partisipasi kelompok, kerja sama kelompok dan tanggung jawab kelompok. Perubahan tersebut bisa terlihat dari proses pembelajaran di kelas selama treatment diterapkan. Dengan adanya penerapan model pembelajaran learning cycle 7-E memberikan dampak positif kepada para peserta didik untuk senantiasa belajar lebih aktif, proses pembelajaran berpusat pada peserta didik dan penuh makna. Bagi guru IPS dengan adanya penerapan model pembelajaran learning cycle 7-E dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu alternatif dalam pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan penguasaan konsep. Kata Kunci: Learning Cycle 7-E dan Penguasaan Konsep Abstract The background in this research was a reality that social studies (IPS) learning at junior high school (SMP/MTs) so far has commonly practiced a teacher-centered learning process. The objective of this research was to to measure the effectiveness of the 7 - E learning cycle model on the mastery of earth surface shape concept in social studies (IPS). Hopefully, the research could be beneficial theoretically and practically in enhancing the mastery of concept by learners in social studies course at the school. This research used a quantitative approach by a quasi-experimental methods. The experimental design used in this research was a nonequivalent (pre-test and post-test) control group design. The subjects in this research was SMPN 52 Bandung grade VII learners in academic year 2013-2014 who were attending social studies (IPS), totally consisting of 10 classes, of which only 2 classes assigned as the research subject by some considerations, among others; the teacher of social studies (IPS) that taught at the classes were the same, the amounts of students were same, they have equally never received any material on earth surface shape, the relatively same average scores, and the 7 - E learning cycle model has never been applied at the 2 classes. The instrument used in the research were observations, interviews, documents, and tests. The procedural stages of data processing conducted in the research began with data presentation, prerequisite test, hypothesis testing, and finally conclusion drawing. The finding of research showed than the application of 7-E learning cycle model might enhance the learners mastery of concept, particularly in the aspects of group interaction and communication, group participation, group cooperation, teamwork and group responsibility. The changes can be seen from the learning processes at classes during the application of the treatment. The application of the 7-E learning cycle model has a positive impact on the learners, i.e., they studied more actively, where the learning process was centered on the learners and meaningful. For the social studies (IPS)teachers, application of the 7- E learning cycle model might be made as an alternative in learning for enhancing the mastery of concept.
