Abstract

Verb is one of the parts of speech that has to be mastered by German learner. Every verb in a German sentence changes its form according to the subject of the sentence which is usually in the form of person or non person which is called conjugation. Verb conjugation in German is a material that is quite difficult for German learners to master. The asynchronous application of Quizizz is one of the learning media that can be applied to improve students' ability to conjugate German verbs. The purpose of this study was to determine: 1) students' ability to conjugate verbs before the asynchronous application of Quizizz, 2) students' verb conjugation ability after the asynchronous application of Quizizz, 3) the differences in students' verb conjugation abilities before and after the asynchronous application of Quizizz, and 4) the effectiveness of the asynchronous application of Quizizz in learning German verb conjugation. This study used the Quasi Experiment with quantitative methods and Non-equivalent Control Group design. The population in this study were students of class XI Cross-Interest in German at SMA Negeri 6 Bandung in the 2021/2022 academic year. The samples in this study were 17 students of class XI IPS 2 as the experimental class and 20 students of class XI IPS 3 as the control class. The results showed that: 1) students’ ability to conjugate German verbs before the asynchronous application of Quizizz was included in the good category, 2) the ability of students in experimental class after the treatment using the asynchronous application of Quizizz is in the very good category, while the ability of students in control class is in the good category. 3) There is a significant difference between the ability of students in the experimental class and control class in learning verb conjugation before and after the asynchronous application of Quizizz and 4) The asynchronous application of Quizizz is effective to be used in learning German verb conjugation. This is proven by the results of the t-test calculation, namely the significance score is lower than 0,05 (0.002 <0.05). Based on the results of this study, the asynchronous application of Quizizz can be used as an alternative learning media in Learning German verb conjugation.
