Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh permasalahan yang ditemukan di SMPN 29 Bandung mengenai kurangnya kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas VIII. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis pengaruh self-concept terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis pada mata pelajaran IPS di SMPN 29 Bandung. Pendekatan penelitian ini menggunakan kuantitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Subjek penelitian kelas VIII di SMPN 29 Bandung yang berjumlah 320 siswa dengan sampel 76 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan angket, tes uraian, wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas, uji linearitas, uji korelasi, uji regresi linear sederhana dan koefisien determinasi (R2). Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut: 1) Self-concept siswa kelas VIII termasuk kedalam kategori sedang dengan persentase 69,8%; 2) Kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS termasuk kedalam kategori baik dengan persentase 63,1%; dan 3) Berdasarkan t-hitung > t-tabel (6,163 > 1,66571) besar signifikannya 0,000 < 0,05 (α = 5%) hal ini menunjukan variabel self-concept secara signifikan berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS dengan tingkat korelasi 0,582. Berdasarkan hasil analisis koefisien determinasi kontribusi variabel self-concept terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS sebesar 33,9% dan sisanya 66,1% dipengaruhi oleh faktor yang lain. This research is motivated by the problems found in SMPN 29 Bandung regarding the lack of critical thinking skills of class VIII students. This study was conducted to describe and analyze the effect of self-concept on critical thinking skills in social studies subjects at SMPN 29 Bandung. This research approach uses quantitative with descriptive method. The research subjects were class VIII at SMPN 29 Bandung, totaling 320 students with a sample of 76 students. Data was collected using questionnaires, description tests, interviews and documentation studies. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics, normality test, linearity test, correlation test, simple linear regression test and the coefficient of determination (R2). Based on the results of the analysis: 1) Self-concept of class VIII students is included in the medium category with a percentage of 69.8%; 2) Students' critical thinking skills in social studies subjects are included in the good category with a percentage of 63.1%; and 3) Based on t-count > t-table (6.163 > 1.66571) the significance is 0.000 <0.05 (α = 5%) this shows that the self-concept variable significantly affects students' critical thinking skills in social studies subjects. with a correlation level of 0.582. Based on the results of the analysis of the coefficient of determination of the contribution of the self-concept variable to students' critical thinking skills in social studies subjects of 33.9% and the remaining 66.1% is influenced by other factors.
