Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk; (1) mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah, (2) mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan kognitif, (3) mengklasifikasi level kemampuan pemecahan masalah pelajar pada materi Gerak Harmonik Sederhana, (4) mengidentifikasi hubungan kemampuan kognitif dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah, serta (5) mengetahui tanggapan siswa terkait penerapan pembelajaran Fisika dengan menggunakan Multiple External Representation. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Quasi Eksperimental dengan One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan yaitu soal essay untuk mengukur kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan soal pilihan ganda untuk mengukur kemampuan kognitif, lembar observasi dan angket tanggapan siswa. Data dianalisis dengan menentukan persentase rata-rata gain di normalisasi dan uji korelasi regresi linear antara kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan kemampuan kognitif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa: peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa berdasarkan analisis gain mencapai kategori “sedang” dan peningkatan kemampuan kognitif siswa berdasarkan analisis gain ternormalisasi mencapai kategori “sedang”. Selain itu hasil pengukuran kemampuan pemacahan masalah diperoleh; siswa berada pada level “Needs Some Improvement”. Sedangkan hubungan antara kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan kemampuan kognitif yaitu “korelasi positif” dengan kategori “rendah”. Serta tanggapan siswa terkait penggunaan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan Multiple External Representation mendapatkan tanggapan positif dari siswa. ..... The purposes of this research are (1) to know problem solving ability enhancement, (2) to know cognitive ability enhancement, (3) to classify students’ problem solving ability level on simple harmonic motion topic, (4) to identify the correlation between problem solving ability and cognitive ability, (5) to know student's response about the use Multiple External Representation (MER) on physics learning. The research method that used is Quasi Experimental with One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The instruments of this research are essay to measure problem solving ability, multiple choice questions to measure cognitive ability, observation sheet and student response questionnaire. The collected research data were analyzed by determining percentage of average gain in normalization and linear regression test correlation between problem solving ability and cognitive ability. The results showed that: Improving both students' problem solving abilities based on gain analysis and cognitive abilities based on normalized gain analysis reached the "moderate" category. In addition, the results of the students' problem-solving ability measurement are at the "Needs Some Improvement" level. Meanwhile, the correlation between problem-solving ability and cognitive ability is "positive correlation" with "low" category. Whereas, the use of Multiple External Representation on physics learning got positive response by the students.
