Abstract
This study is intended to investigate the implementation of Edmodo, adult learners’ engagement in Edmodo, and adult learners’ attitude toward the implementation of Edmodo in teaching speaking. The study employed a case study approach. Based on the result and the analysis, this study shows that the blended learning program flow is divided into three stages: getting in the zone (Kickoff event & initial learning activity), exploration (second learning activity & check-in event), and evaluation (final assessment & evaluation). Edmodo is implemented as a follow up activity covering exploration and evaluation stage by using instructor-led event. In evaluation stage, learners record their speaking and submit it into note menu in Edmodo. Peer correction and instructor feedback are employed in Edmodo as well. In term of learners’ engagement, interview and observation results reveal that Edmodo facilitates cognitive, behavior, and emotional engagement during online meeting. In addition, Learners show positive attitude toward the use of Edmodo as a blended learning platform in teaching and learning speaking. Learners perceive Edmodo bring many advantages to their learning. Besides it can facilitate learners in improving speaking skill, Edmodo offers them new experience with new atmosphere in learning speaking. Improving communication skill is also one of the benefits gained through Edmodo.-----Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui implementasi penggunaan Edmodo dalam pengajaran speaking kepada pembelajar dewasa, mengobservasi engagement para pembelajar dewasa dalam penggunaan Edmodo, serta mengidentifikasi persepsi para pembelajar dewasa terhadap penggunaan Edmodo dalam pengajaran speaking. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan analisa, implementasi blended learning dengan menggunakan platform Edmodo dibagi ke dalam tiga tahap program yakni getting in the zone (Kickoff event & initial learning activity), exploration (second learning activity & check-in event), dan evaluation (final assessment & evaluation). Edmodo digunakan sebagai kegiatan lanjutan dari pembelajaran face-to-face dengan meliputi tahapan exploration dan evaluation dengan menggunakan metode instructor-led event. Pada tahap evaluation para pembelajar melatih speaking mereka dengan cara merekam suara atau video yang kemudian mereka unggah ke menu Note di Edmodo. Koreksi dan umpan balik dari teman dan instruktur juga dilakukan di dalam Edmodo. Dari segi engagement, berdasarkan hasil wawancara dan observasi, Edmodo memfasilitasi para pembelajar dewasa secara cognitive, behavior, and emotional selama belajar secara online menggunakan Edmodo. Di samping itu, pembelajar dewasa juga menunjukan sikap dan persepsi yang positif terhadap penggunaan Edmodo sebagai platform untuk blended learning dalam pengajaran speaking. Pembelajar dewasa menganggap Edmodo memberikan banyak manfaat pada pembelajaran mereka. Selain dapat meningkatkan kecakapan berbicara bahasa Inggris mereka, Edmodo juga memberikan pengalaman baru dan atmosfir baru dalam pembelajaran speaking. Mereka juga menambahkan bahwa Edmodo mampu meningkatkan kecakapan komunikasi mereka.
