Abstract
The research is motivated by the assumption that social competence is influenced by the family environment, where adolescences first learn various things so they can develop optimally. The family environment is certainly closely related to parenting style. The objective of the study was to describe the general description of social competence and parenting style, and to describe the contribution of parenting style to the social competence of class XI MAN 1 Bandung academic year 2017/2018 by using quantitative approach, descriptive method, and correlational statistical design toward 412 students. Technique of sampling in research use total sample. The research findings show that (1) the general description of social competence in class XI MAN 1 Bandung academic year 2017/2018 is in high level of social competence as many as 215 students with percentage of 52.18%, (2) the general description of parenting style that the students of class XI MAN 1 Bandung of the academic year 2017/2018 tend to feel the majority of the authoritative parenting as much as 121 students with percentage of 29%, (3) the biggest parenting style that has contribute to social competence is authoritative parenting with a positive coefficient correlation of 0,410 and p=0,000 < 0,05 that means significant with contribution of 16.81%. The result of research can be used as the basis and information for the school and counselor to improve the social competemce of students by doing intensive cooperation with parents.---- Penelitian dilatarbelakangi oleh asumsi yang menyatakan bahwa kompetensi sosial dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan keluarga, tempat remaja pertama kali mempelajari berbagai hal sehingga dapat berkembang secara optimal. Dalam lingkungan keluarga tentu berkaitan erat dengan pola pengasuhan orang tua. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan gambaran umum kompetensi sosial dan pola asuh orang tua, serta mendeskripsikan kontribusi pola asuh orang tua terhadap kompetensi sosial peserta didik kelas XI MAN 1 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2017/2018 dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, metode deskriptif, dan desain statistik korelasional terhadap 412 peserta didik. Teknik pengambilan sampel pada penelitian menggunakan sampel total. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) gambaran umum kompetensi sosial peserta didik kelas XI MAN 1 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2017/2018 cenderung berkompeten, yaitu sebanyak 215 orang peserta didik dengan persentase 52,18%, (2) gambaran umum pola asuh orang tua yang dirasakan peserta didik kelas XI MAN 1 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2017/2018 mayoritas merasakan pola asuh demokratis (authoritative parenting) sebanyak 121 orang peserta didik dengan persentase sebesar 29%, (3) pola asuh yang paling besar berkontribusi terhadap kompetensi sosial adalah pola asuh demokratis (authoritative) yang berkorelasi positif terhadap kompetensi sosial dengan rx1y=0,410 dan p=0,000<0,05 yang berarti signifikan, dengan kontribusi sebesar 16,81%. Hasil penelitian dapat dijadikan sumber informasi bagi pihak sekolah serta guru BK/konselor dalam meningkatkan kompetensi sosial peserta didik dengan melakukan upaya kolaboratif dan kerja sama secara intensif bersama orang tua peserta didik.
