Abstract

Latar belakang masalah dalam penelitian ini beranjak dari realitas objektif, yaitu kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat Desa Bantaragung Kecamatan Sindangwangi Kabupaten Majalengka, terhadap tradisi khususnya tradisi Ngarupus. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan struktur dan unsur semiotik tradisi Ngarupus serta implikasi hasil penelitian tradisi Ngarupus untuk bahan pembelajaran bahasan budaya Sunda di SMA/SMK. Metode analisis yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini menggunakan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian mendeskripsikan empat hal, yaitu: pertama, deskripsi tradisi Ngarupus yang meliputi sejarah dan fungsi tradisi Ngarupus; kedua, struktur tradisi Ngarupus berkaitan dengan pelaku, waktu, tempat, peralatan, sesajen, dan pelaksanaan tradisi Ngarupus; ketiga, unsur semiotik yang berkaitan dengan ikon, indeks, dan simbol. Ikon yang ditemukan dalam tradisi Ngarupus merupakan gambaran tanda (benda) yang sesuai dengan apa yang diinterpretasikan. Indeks merupakan gambaran kegiatan prosesi pada tradisi Ngarupus yang memiliki sebab-akibat. Simbol pada tradisi Ngarupus merupakan gambaran tanda konvensional yang memiliki ma’na harapan-harapan untuk bayi tersebut; keempat, hasil penelitian bisa dijadikan alternatif bahan pengajaran membaca bahasan budaya di SMA/SMK.---This study is triggered by an objective reality of the lack of knowledge among the people of Bantaragung Village of Sindangwangi District of Majalengka Regency. The lack of knowledge is mainly on the tradition of Ngarupus. This study aimed to describe the tradition of Ngarupus, as well as its structure, semiotical elements, and the implications on the tradition of Ngarupus as a learning material for readingsundanese culture discussion in the high school level. This study employed descriptive method. The data collection technique of the study covered interviews, observation, and documentation. The instruments used in this study were digital camera, smartphone, and interview guideline. The results of the study describe four things, that is: firs, a descrption on tradition of ngarupus that includes the history and functions of the tradition of Ngarupus; second, the structure on the tradition of Ngarupus relates to the actors, time, place, tools, offerings, and practice; third, a symbiotic element associated with the icon, indexes and symbols. The icon is in the tradition of Ngarupus is a overview of sign (tools) that corresponds to the interepreted. The index is an overview of practice activity on tradition of Ngarupus wich has a cause and effect. The symbols is in the tradition of Ngarupus is a overview of the conventional sign that have a meaning of expectations for the baby; fourth, the result of the study can be used as an alternative of learning material for reading Sundanese culture discussion in the high school level.
