Abstract

Salah satu yang melatarbelakangi masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah kemampuan visual thinking siswa yang masih rendah. Kurangnya kemampuan siswa dalam melihat dan membayangkan (menduga secara akurat bentuk suatu objek dipandang dari sudut pandang tertentu) merupakan salah satu faktor rendahnya kemampuan visual thinking siswa. Selain itu, faktor rendahnya kemampuan visual thinking siswa disebabkan karena model pembelajaran yang tidak cocok, siswa tidak percaya diri dengan kemampuan yang dimilikinya dan memiliki kesulitan dalam bidang kajian geometri (khususnya geometri ruang/dimensi tiga). Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis peningkatan kemampuan visual thinking siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan model Discovery Learning berbantuan Geogebra lebih baik secara signifikan daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional dan mengalisis sikap siswa terhadap model Discovery Learning berbantuan Geogebra dalam pembelajaran matematika. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Kuasi Eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Terdapat empat tahap dalam penelitian ini, yaitu tahap pertama berupa uji instrumen kemampuan visual thinking yang diujikan terhadap siswa SMP kelas IX, tahap kedua berupa pre-test kemampuan visual thinking siswa, tahap ketiga berupa uji coba pembelajaran dengan model Discovery Learning berbantuan Geogebra dan tahap keempat berupa post-test kemampuan visual thinking dan angket sikap siswa yang diujikan kepada siswa SMP kelas VIII. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan dapat disimpulkan bahwa: 1) Siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan model Discovery Learning berbantuan Geogebra memiliki peningkatan kemampuan visual thinking yang lebih tinggi secara signifikan daripada siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran konvensional.; 2) Sikap siswa terhadap model Discovery learning berbantuan geogebra dalam pembelajaran matematika adalah positif, Kata Kunci : Visual Thinking, Discovery Learning Berbantuan Geogebra, One of the underlying problems in this study is the low ability of student’s visual thinking. Lack of students' ability to see and imagine (predicting the shape of an object accurately is viewed from a particular point of view) is one of the factors of student’s low visual thinking ability. In addition, the low visual thinking ability of the student’s factor is caused by the unsuitable learning model, the students are not confident with their ability and have difficulties in mathematics that is in the field of geometry study (especially the geometry of space/three dimension).The purpose of this study is to analyze the improvement of students’ visual thinking ability that learned with Geogebra-assisted Discovery Learning model is significantly better than students who received conventional learning and to analyzestudents' attitude toward Geogebra-assisted Discovery Learning model in mathematics. The research method used in this research is Quasi Experiments with quantitative approach. There are four stages in this research, the first stage is instrument test of visual thinking ability which is tested to junior high school student of class IX, second stage is pre-test of students’ visual thinking ability, third stage is learning experiment with Geogebra-assisted Discovery Learning model and fourth stage is post-test of visual thinking ability and students’ attitude questionnaire which is tested to junior high school students of class VIII. Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be concluded that: 1) Students, who learned with Geogebra-assisted Discovery Learning model,have an improvement in visual thinking ability significantly higher than students who received conventional learning; 2) The students’ attitude toward Geogebra-assisted Discovery Learning model in mathematics is positive, Keywords: Visual Thinking, Geogebra-Assisted Discovery Learning,
