Abstract

Penelitian ini di latar belakangi oleh rendahnya aktivitas belajar dan pemahaman konsep siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika khususnya pada materi keliling dan luas persegi dan persegi panjang yang menyebabkan hasil belajar siswa yang rendah. Berdasarkan masalah tersebut, salah satu pendekatan yang dapat meningkatkan pemahaman siswa yaitu pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). Tujuan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) ini yaitu (1) mendeskripsikan pelaksanaan penerapan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) pada pembelajaran matematika, (2) mengetahui peningkatan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa dengan menerapkan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). Model PTK yang digunakan adaptasi dari model Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart meliputi empat tahap penelitian yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua siklus. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IV di SDN SJ Kota Bandung yang berjumlah 30 siswa. Pengolahan data yang digunakan adalah analisis data kuantitatif dan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa pada setiap siklusnya. Pada Siklus I persentase ketuntasan hasil belajar kognitif siswa adalah 77% dengan nilai rata-rata kelas adalah 77,00 dan mengalami peningkatan pada siklus II menjadi 87% dengan nilai rata-rata kelas 85,17. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa kelas IV sekolah dasar pada materi keliling dan luas persegi dan persegi panjang. This research is in the background because of the low learning activities and students' understanding in mathematics learning especially on the circumference material and the area of square and rectangle that causes low student learning outcomes. Based on the problem, one approach that can improve students' understanding is Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. The purpose of this classroom action research is (1) to describe the implementation of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach to mathematics learning, (2) to know the improvement of students' mathematicsal concept understanding by applying Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. PTK model used adaptation of Kemmis and Mc model. Taggart includes four stages of research: planning, execution, observation and reflection. This study consists of two cycles. Participants of this study are the fourth grade students in SDN SJ Bandung, amounting to 30 students. Data processing used is quantitative and descriptive qualitative data analysis. The result of the research shows improvement of students' mathematicsal concept understanding in each cycle. In Cycle I the percentage of completeness of cognitive learning outcomes of students is 77% with the average grade is 77.00 and increased in cycle II to 87% with an average grade grade of 85.17. Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that the application of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach can improve the understanding of mathematicsal concept of fourth grade students of elementary school on the circumference material and the area of square and rectangle.
