    Abstract

    Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh asumsi yang menyatakan dimensi kualitas penting
    untuk diperhatikan dalam hubungan persahabatan bagi remaja awal karena hal tersebut
    berkaitan dengan kesejahteraan dan perkembangannya. Empati yang melibatkan
    kemampuan memahami dan merasakan kondisi emosional orang lain diidentifikasi dapat
    memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap kualitas persahabatan remaja. Secara umum
    penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk menghasilkan deskripsi mengenai empati dan kualitas
    persahabatan serta hubungan antara empati dengan kualitas persahabatan pada peserta
    didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 43 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Pendekatan
    penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode deskriptif analitis dan
    desain statistik korelasional. Sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 334 peserta didik. Hasil
    penelitian menunjukkan: (1) secara umum empati peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 43
    Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017 berada pada kategori tinggi, (2) secara umum kualitas
    persahabatan peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 43 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017
    berada pada kategori tinggi, (3) terdapat hubungan positif antara empati dengan kualitas
    persahabatan. Bermakna bahwa semakin tinggi empati yang dimiliki peserta didik maka
    kualitas persahabatan peserta didik cenderung tinggi. Hasil analisis penelitian ini
    dijadikan dasar pertimbangan bagi peneliti dalam menyusun program pengembangan
    empati untuk meningkatkan kualitas persahabatan peserta didik.----------The research is motivated by the assumption that states dimension of quality is
    considering important in its relation to the friendship in early adolescence as it relates to
    its wellbeing and development. Empathy which involve the capability to understand and
    feel the emotional state of other people is identified can give positive impact to the quality
    of friendship in adolescence. Generally, the research was conducted to result description
    of empathy and friendship quality and to determine the relationship between empathy and
    friendship quality of the eight grade students of SMPN 43 Bandung in academic year
    2016/2017. The research used quantitative approach with analytical descriptive and
    correlational statistical design. Samples are 334 students. The results showed: (1)
    Generally the empathy of the eight students of SMPN 43 Bandung in academic year
    2016/2017 is at high category, (2) Generally the friendship quality of the eight students of
    SMPN 43 Bandung in academic year 2016/2017 is at high category, (3) There is a
    positive relation between empathy and friendship quality. It means that the higher the
    students’ empathy, then the quality of students’ friendship tends to be high. The results of
    this analysis becomes a basis for the consideration of researchers in formulating
    hypothetical basic service program that focuses on the development of the empathy as an
    effort to improve the quality of students' friendship.
