Abstract

Penelitian ini mengujikan pengaruh strategi concep oriented reading instruction (CORI) terhadap penguasaan konsep sains siswa kelas 4 SD untuk materi bumi dan bulan. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi hasil survei internasional yang menempatkan siswa Indonesia di peringkat bawah, berdasarkan kajian penelitian pendahuluan ditemukan korelasi yang kuat antara penguasaan konsep sains dengan strategi membaca. Peneliti kemudian memilih strategi CORI yang melibatkan strategi dalam aspek kognitif, membaca, bertanya, menulis dan penyelidikan dalam sains. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apakah penguasaan konsep siswa dapat meningkat dengan menggunakan strategi CORI. Metode penelitian menggunakan kuasi eksperimen dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa angket, rubrik jurnal, rubrik performance proyek sains, dan tes tertulis penguasaan konsep untuk materi bumi dan bulan yang telah melalui tahap validasi ahli dan validasi secara statistik. Hasil tes menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan yang lebih tinggi secara signifikan penguasaan konsep sains materi bumi dan bulan di kelas eksperimen dibandingkan di kelas kontrol. Siswa di kelas CORI menyatakan menyukai penerapan strategi CORI dan merasa lebih dapat memahami konsep dengan strategi yang diterapkan. Strategi CORI memberikan dampak siswa lebih terlibat dalam kegiatan membaca, lebih menguasai pemaknaan kosakata sains, pembelajar aktif dalam bertanya dan penyelidikan baik dari buku, teks, maupun kegiatan hands-on, siswa mulai menggunakan bahasa sendiri dalam mengungkapkan pemahamannya akan konsep dalam jurnal dan sebagian siswa mulai menggunakan peta konsep. Siswa juga belajar mengutarakan pengetahuan melalui presentasi menggunakan display visual dalam proyek sains, sehingga siswa dapat memaparkan penguasaan konsep melalui tulisan, gambar, grafik, dan lisan. ; ---- This research test the influence of concept oriented reading instruction (CORI) to science concept mastery of 4th grade primary school students for the earth and moon material. This research was motivated by an international survey result that place Indonesian students at the lower rank. Based on preliminary study, it was found a strong correlation between science concept mastery and learning strategy. The researcher choose CORI strategy which involving strategy of cognitive, reading, asking, writing and researching aspects in science. This research aim to know whether the students mastery concept could increase by using CORI stategy. The research method use experiment quasi with data collection techniques such as questionnaire, journals, science performance projects, and written tests of earth and moon material mastery concept which has been through expert and statistical validation. Test result shows a significant improvement of earth and moon material mastery concept at the experimental class in comparison with the control class. Students at CORI class expressed that they prefer the application of CORI strategy and feel understand the material concept better with the said strategy. CORI strategy impacts students to be more proactive in reading activities, more understanding of science vocabularies, active learners in asking and researching whether from books, teks, nor hands-on activities, students start to use their own language in expressing their understanding of concept in journals and some students starting to use concept map. Students also learning to expressing their knowledge through presentation using visual displays in science projects, so that student can explain their concept mastery through writing, drawing, chart and oral.
