Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan siswa sekolah dasar dalam menulis deskripsi masih sangat rendah dan guru masih mengajarkan menulis dengan metode konvensional serta sarana yang kurang mendukung. Oleh sebab itu, penulis ingin menguji kemampuan siswa dalam menulis deskripsi dengan menggunakan model Picture and Picture. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen kuasi dengan desain non-equivalent control group design, dengan menggunakan dua kelompok pembelajaran. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IV SDN Karamatmulya 01 Kecamatan Soreang, Kabupaten Bandung. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan cara tes tertulis, observasi dan dokumen. Kelompok eksperimen diberikan perlakuan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model Picture and Picture dan kelompok kontrol diberikan pembelajaran berlangsung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara umum kemampuan awal siswa menulis deskripsi sangat rendah. Rendahnya kemampuan awal siswa (pretest) disebabkan materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian tidak menggunakan model pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan materi pembelajaran tetapi guru hanya menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional. Setelah diberikan perlakuan, terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata posttest pada kedua kelompok pembelajaran. Akan tetapi, peningkatan hasil belajar kelompok eksperimen lebih baik daripada kelompok kontrol. Peningkatan kemampuan menulis deskripsi pada kelompok eksperimen terlihat dari nilai rata-rata pretest 40,45 menjadi 79,04 pada saat posttest atau meningkat 38,59 dan pada kelompok kontrol terjadi peningkatan dari nilai rata-rata 40,58 pretest menjadi 70,00 atau meningkat 29,42 . Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model Picture and Picture dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis deskripsi siswa kelas IV SDN karamatmulya 01 Kecamatan Soreang Kabupaten Bandung.;---This research was motivated by a students of elementary school problem in ability of writing description still really low and teachers still teaching to writing with conventional method and with minim facilities support. Because of that, writer want to test students ability in writing description using Picture and Picture model. The method used in this research was quasi experiment with non-equivalent control group design with two groups of learning. The subjects involved in this research was the IV grade students of private elementary school of Karamatmulya 01, Central Bandung regency. The experimental group was treated by using Picture and Picture model while the control group was taught conventionally. The findings revealed that in general the students’ prior competence of writing descriptions of oral stories was very low. Low ability students' initial (pretest) due to the materials used in the study did not use appropriate learning model with learning materials but teachers only use conventional learning. After the treatment, there was an increase in the average scores both of control and experimental groups. Nevertheless, the increase in experimental group was better than that of in the control group, both in the writing desctiptions. As it can be seen, the writing competence score of the experimental group increased from 40,45 in the pretest to 70,04 in the posttest (an increase of 38,59) while the score of the control group increased from 40,58 in the pretest to 70,00 in the posttest (an increase of 29,42). Therefore, it could be concluded that the use of Picture and Picture model is effective to improve the students’ competence in writing descriptions.
