Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui kemampuan pemahaman matematis anak jalanan pada aritmetika dasar; dan (2) mengetahui kesulitan anak jalanan dalam menyelesaikan tes kemampuan pemahaman matematis yang berkaitan dengan aritmetika dasar. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Yayasan Bangun Bahagia Sejahtera (Yayasan Bagea) Bandung yang mengikutsertakan 2 (dua) orang anak jalanan yang memiliki latar belakang berbeda sebagai sumber informasi (informan). Informan pertama berusia 10 tahunan yang masih melanjutkan sekolah di sekolah formal. Informan kedua berusia 11 tahunan yang tidak melanjutkan sekolah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif. Penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus kualitatif terhadap 2(dua) informan dengan menggunakan 3 (tiga) buah instrumen, yaitu: tes kemampuan pemahaman matematis, lembar observasi, dan wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) kemampuan pemahaman matematis anak jalanan baru mencapai dasar-dasar operasi penjumlahan dan pengurangan dalam bilangan asli; dan (2) kesulitan anak jalanan terletak pada kesalahan penempatan bilangan karena ketidakpahaman dalam konsep nilai tempat serta permasalahan soal cerita yang tidak dapat selesaikan.;---This study aim to: (1) find out street children’s mathematical understanding ability on basic arithmetic; and (2) find out street children’s difficulties in solving the test of mathematical understanding ability. This study is held in Yayasan Bangun Bahagia Sejahtera (Yayasan Bagea) in Bandung involving 2 (two) street children who have different background as the source of information (informant). The first informan is a 10-years old street child who is studying in formal school. The other one is a 11-years old street child who dropped out from formal school. Research method that used is qualitative method. This is a qualitative case study toward 2 (two) informants using 3 (three) instruments, namely: mathematical understanding ability test, observation sheets, and interview. The result of this study shows that: (1) street children’s mathematical understanding ability just achieved the basics operation of addition and substraction in natural numbers; and (2) street children’s difficulties lies on the misplacement of number on place value concept as well as the unsolved word problem.
