Abstract
Penelitian ini menggambarkan profil tingkat penerimaan siswa SMA dan MA terhadap teori evolusi, dan menganalisis apakah terdapat perbedaan tingkat penerimaan terhadap teori evolusi pada siswa SMA dan MA yang diukur dengan menggunakan instrumen MATE (Measure of Acceptance of the Theory of Evolution) yang telah dimodifikasi dan disesuaikan dengan keadaan di Indonesia. Hal yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa SMA dan MA adalah faktor agama yang merupakan faktor utama yang memengaruhi sikap siswa terhadap teori evolusi, dan terdapat perbedaan kondisi proses belajar mengajar antara SMA dengan MA di mana siswa MA mendapatkan pembelajaran agama yang lebih dalam dan beragam dari pada siswa SMA. Sebanyak 28 orang siswa SMA dan 33 orang siswa MA mengisi MATE, dan dilakukan juga wawancara kepada beberapa siswa SMA dan MA serta guru biologi untuk memperoleh informasi yang belum terungkap oleh MATE. Hasil analisis data menggambarkan profil tingkat penerimaan siswa SMA terhadap teori evolusi adalah, 10 orang (35,71%) masuk ke dalam kategori tingkat penerimaan rendah, 15 orang (53,58%) tingkat penerimaan sedang, dan 3 orang (10,71%) tingkat penerimaan tinggi. Profil tingkat penerimaan siswa MA terhadap teori evolusi adalah, 1 orang (3,03%) masuk ke dalam kategori tingkat penerimaan sangat rendah, 9 orang (27,27%) tingkat penerimaan rendah, 22 orang (66,67%) tingkat penerimaan sedang, dan 2 orang (6,06%) tingkat penerimaan tinggi. Perbandingan dengan uji Mann Whitney-U menunjukkan hasil bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan secara signifikan pada tingkat penerimaan siswa SMA dan MA terhadap teori evolusi.;---This study provide the profile of SMA and MA student’s levels of acceptance, and the analysis of whether there are differences in the acceptance levels of evolution theory in SMA and MA students. The acceptance levels were measured using Measure of Acceptance of the Theory of Evolution (MATE) instrument, which has been modified and adapted to situation in Indonesia. This study based on the main factor that influence student’s attitude towards the evolution theory, which is religious factors, and there are differences in the condition of the learning process between SMA and MA students where MA students receive deeper and more varied of religion subject than SMA students. The MATE instrument administered to 28 high school students and 33 MA students, and researcher also conducted interviews to some of SMA and MA students and biology teachers to obtain information that has not been revealed by the MATE. The results of the data analysis shows the acceptance levels of evolution theory of SMA students is, 10 people (35.71%) belong to the category of low acceptance, 15 (53.58%) moderate acceptance, and 3 (10.71% ) high acceptance. The acceptance levels of evolution theory of MA students is, one person (3.03%) belong to the category of very low acceptance, 9 (27.27%) low acceptance, 22 (66.67%) moderate acceptance and 2 (6.06%) high acceptance. Comparison with the Mann Whitney-U test showed that there was no significant difference in SMA and MA student’s levels of acceptance of the theory of evolution.
