Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menerapkan pembelajaran IPA berbasis socioscientific issues untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pengambilan keputusan siswa SMP berdasarkan gender pada materi pencemaran lingkungan. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Sidenreng Rappang, Sulawesi Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pre eksperimen dengan desain one-group pretest-postest design. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan soal tes kemampuan pengambilan keputusan, soal penguasaan konsep, lembar angket tanggapan siswa, wawancara guru dan observasi keterlaksanaan pembelajaran,. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kemampuan pengambilan keputusan siswa setelah implementasi pembelajaran IPA berbasis SSI meningkat dan tidak terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pengambilan keputusan antara siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan dengan N-gain siswa laki-laki sebesar 0,42 (kategori sedang) dan perempuan 0,54 kategori (sedang). Kemampuan pengambilan keputusan berdasarkan kelompok kerja menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pengambilan keputusan antara kelompok kerja laki-laki dan kelompok kerja perempuan, sedangkan antara kelompok kerja campuran dengan kelompok kerja laki-laki dan kelompok kerja perempuan menunjukkan adanya perbedaan peningkatan. Hubungan antara penguasaan konsep dengan pengambilan keputusan menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat korelasi positif yang signifikan. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran IPA berbasis SSI dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pengambilan keputusan siswa laki-laki maupun perempuan dengan membentuk kelompok kerja. Selain itu, terdapat faktor selain penguasaan konsep yang mempengaruhi kemampuan pengambilan keputusan siswa. ;---The purpose of this study was to investigate the implementation of socioscientific issues based instruction to examine students’ junior high school decision making on environmental pollution matter. The participants in this research was students secondary school grade VII in Sidenreng Rappang, South Sulawesi. Pre experiment method was utilized in this research with one group pretest posttest design. The instrument used in this study comprised of decision making test, science knowledge test, students’ questionnaire, format of teacher interview and observation sheet of learning implementation. The result indicated that socioscientific based instruction has been implemented successfully. From Students’ decision making skill, it was found that pretest and posttest was improved with N-gain for male 0.42 for male (medium category) and 0,54 for female (medium category). However based on independent t test was found there was no difference improvement of decision making skill between male and female students. The group based students’ decision making skill showed that there is no difference between male group and female group decision making, but a significant difference was noted in mix group. The correlation analysis between science knowledge and decision making indicated that there is no significant correlation. Students and science teacher give positive response to the implementation of socioscientific issues based instruction. It is concluded that socioscientific issues based instruction can be implemented to foster male and female decision making skill by forming group discussion.
