Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kurangnya kemampuan berfikir kritis dalam pembelajaran IPS. Kemampuan berfikir kritis ini sangat penting dimiliki oleh peserta didik karena akan berpengaruh pada proses pembelajaran secara keseluruhan. Untuk mengatasi rendahnya kemampuan berfikir kritis, maka dipilih metode pembelajaran inkuiri sosial. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan desain perencanaan, pelaksanaan, hasil-hasil yang dicapai, dan solusi untuk menghadapi kendala penerapan metode inkuiri sosial dalam pembelajaran IPS untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berfikir kritis peserta didik di kelas VII D SMP Negeri 1 Jalancagak. Metode penelitian menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (Classroom Action Research) yang merujuk pada pola desain penelitian Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. Dari hasil observasi dan analisis pada ke lima aspek kemampuan berfikir kritis, yaitu: (1) Memberikan penjelasan sederhana; (2) Membangun keterampilan dasar; (3) Menyimpulkan; (4) Memberikan penjelasan lebih lanjut; dan (5) Mengatur Strategi dan Teknik, disimpulkan bahwa ada peningkatan kemampuan yang signifikan setelah dilakukan tindakan sebanyak tiga kali siklus. Dari tindakan siklus satu-tiga, tingkat kemampuan berfikir kritis peserta didik meningkat mulai pada kategori “Cukup” (C) menuju pada kategori” Baik” (B). Begitupun dengan hasil tes belajar dalam penelitian ini mengalami peningkatan dari semula siklus pertama pada kriteria “Rendah”, siklus kedua, meningkat menjadi “Sedang”, dan pada siklus ketiga, meningkat signifikan menjadi “Tinggi”. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tindakan kelas ini, penerapan metode inkuiri sosial telah berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan berfikir kritis di Kelas VII D SMP Negeri 1 Jalancagak. Peserta didik lebih kritis dalam mengetahui, memahami, menganalisis, memberi solusi, dan menarik kesimpulan dari suatu permasalahan khususnya permasalahan sosial. --- This research is motivated by the lack of critical thinking skills in social studies learning. Critical thinking ability is very important because it is owned by the learner will affect the overall learning process. To overcome the lack of ability to think critically, then the chosen method of social inquiry learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the planning design, implementation, results achieved, and solutions to face constraints in the implementation of social inquiry method of social studies learning to improve the critical thinking skills of learners in class VII D SMP Negeri 1 Jalancagak. The research method uses a Class Action Research (CAR), which refers to the study of design patterns Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. From the observation and analysis on all five aspects of critical thinking skills, namely: (1) Provide a simple explanation; (2) Build basic skills; (3) Concluded; (4) Providing further explanation; and (5) Adjust Strategies and Techniques, concluded that there was a significant increase in capability after the action three times the cycle. From the three-cycle action, the level of critical thinking skills of learners increase starting in the category of "Enough" (C) to the category of "Good" (B). Likewise with assay results of learning in this study experienced an increase from the previous first cycle on the criterion of "Low", the second cycle, increased to "Medium", and in the third cycle, increased significantly to "High". Based on the findings of this class action, the application of methods of social inquiry has succeeded in improving the ability of critical thinking in class VII D SMP Negeri 1 Jalancagak. Learners are more critical to know, understand, analyze, provide solutions, and draw the conclusion of an issues, especially social issues.
