Abstract
Seni WPAP merupakan Pop Art Indonesia yang belakangan ini tengah digandrungi masyarakat. Dengan sajian yang unik dan menarik menjadikan WPAP mudah diterima di masyarakat, terbukti dengan berdirinya komunitas WPAP diberbagai kota di Indonesia dengan jumlah pengikut yang tidak sedikit. Hal tersebut berbanding terbalik dengan kondisi seni bordir yang dianggap kuno. Para perajin bordir di daerah khususnya lebih memilih beralih profesi dikarenakan profesi sebagai perajin bordir yang kurang menjanjikan. Ketimpangan tersebut menggugah penulis untuk menggabungkan seni WPAP dan bordir dengan tujuan memberikan refrensi baru pada media berkarya seni WPAP, serta mengangkat seni bordir. Ide atau gagasan yang diangkat dalam skripsi penciptaan ini merupakan potret legenda tinju dunia Muhammad Ali yang sangat menginspirasi. Dengan berbagai prestasi di dalam dan di luar ring tinju, menjadikan Muhammad Ali sebagai sosok yang disegani dan dihormati sampai saat ini. Metode penciptaan karya ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan Kualitatif, yaitu dengan melakukan beberapa tahapan diantaranya: observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Proses penciptaan karya diawali dari proses rancangan awal, dilanjutkan dengan proses digital pada komputer dan terakhir adalah proses membordir. Visualisasi karya berupa enam buah karya seni WPAP dengan Teknik Bordir dengan berbagai ukuran yang menampilkan potret serta gerakan tinju Muhammad Ali. Dari hasil penciptaan ini diharapkan mampu mendorong semangat generasi muda untuk terus berkarya seni. Kata Kunci : Pop Art, WPAP, Bordir, Muhammad Ali. The art of WPAP is one of the Indonesian Pop Art which lately has been popular among people. With a unique and attracting style, WPAP becomes easily accepted by the society, as what is seen since many WPAP communities in the cities in Indonesia were established, the number of followers of members keeps growing until now. That phenomenon was not anymore like in the past time when the art of embroidery was seen old-fashioned. The embroidery artist in certain area tend to leave the job regarding thet kind of profession economically is considered less-favorable. Such lameness invokes the writer to combine the WPAP art and embroidery purposely to give the new reference in the WPAP art, also to reintroduce the beauty of embroidery art. This study is insfired by the figure of Muhammad Ali whose achievements in boxing word make him a legend and get respected by people. This study also develops descriptive-qualitative method which consists of several steps such as: observation, interview, library research and documentation. The process of art creation, started with the beginning plan, continued with digitalizing process with computers and the last is embroidering. Six work of WPAP with various size of broidery technique showing the movements of Muhammad Ali in boxing are resulted. Furthermore, such creations are expected to be able to invoke people to perform arts. Keywords: Pop Art, WPAP, Embroidery, Muhammad Ali
