Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana cara siswa mengambil keputusan untuk menjawab soal-soal IPA TIMSS domain kognitif penalaran. Terdapat dua aspek yang terkait dengan proses pengambilan keputusan, yaitu bagaimana strategi pengambilan keputusan yang digunakan oleh siswa dalam menjawab soal dalam bentuk pilihan ganda dan juga termasuk ke dalam kategori apakah pengambilan keputusan yang digunakan siswa dalam menjawab soal dalam bentuk constructed response. Penelitian juga dilakukan untuk melihat seberapa besar capaian siswa dalam menjawab soal-soal penalaran IPA TIMSS dan melihat tingkat penalaran siswa yang mengerjakan soal-soal penalaran IPA TIMSS tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survei yang dilakukan kepada 178 siswa SMP kelas VIII yang berasal dari enam sekolah negeri di Kota Bandung. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang dilakukan adalah stratified random sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan instrumen berupa soal-soal penalaran IPA TIMSS sebanyak 20 soal yang terdiri dari 10 soal pilihan ganda dan 10 soal constructed response. Instrument berupa soal-soal tes berpikir logis juga digunakan untuk melihat tingkat penalaran siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa cenderung menggunakan strategi compensatory untuk pengambilan keputusan dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal pilihan ganda dan cenderung menggunakan kategori intuisi untuk menjawab soal-soal constructed response. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa capaian siswa dalam mengerjakan soal-soal penalaran IPA TIMSS masih sangat rendah. Kurang dari setengah siswa yang mengerjakan soal-soal penalaran IPA TIMSS belum dapat menjawab soal-soal dengan benar. Lebih banyak siswa yang berada pada tingkat penalaran konkret dibandingkan dengan siswa yang termasuk dalam tingkat penalaran formal. Kata Kunci: Pengambilan keputusan, Penalaran IPA, TIMSS, Tes Berpikir Logis, Penalaran This study aims to determine students’ decision making strategy to answer the questions TIMSS science reasoning test in cognitive reasoning domain. There are two aspects related to the decision-making process, first is the decision-making strategies used by students in answering multiple choice questions and the second is the category whether the decision that students use in answering constructed response questions. Research was also conducted to see how the achievements of students in answering questions TIMSS science reasoning and see the level of reasoning of students who answer the question of the TIMSS science reasoning. This survey study was conducted to 178 junior high school students of eight grade from six public schools in Bandung city which used stratified random sampling technique. The instrument of this research is science reasoning of TIMSS as many as 20 questions consisting of 10 multiple choice questions and 10 questions constructed response. Test of logical thinking was used to see the reasoning level of students. The results showed that students tend to use compensatory strategies for decision making in completing multiple choice questions and tend to use intuition categories to answer the constructed response questions. The results showed that the achievement of students in TIMSS science reasoning is still very low. Less than half the students are answered the TIMSS science reasoning question can not answer the questions correctly.
