Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji jenis-jenis kalimat, kualitas logika kalimat dan kualitas kutipan dan referensi di jurnal artikel yang ditulis oleh dosen-dosen di fakultas ilmu sosial dan fakultas bahasa dan sastra di salah satu universitas di Bandung. Jenis-jenis kalimat dan kualitas logika kalimat dianalisa berdasarkan teori dari Alwi, Dardjowidjoyo, Lapoliwa, and Moeliono (2003) yang dikombinasikan dengan teori dari Oshima dan Hogue (2007), sedangkan kutipan dan referensi dianalisa menurut gaya selingkung APA (2010). Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif qualitatif, penelitian ini mengkaji 16 jurnal artikel yang merupakan perwakilan dari setiap jurusan dikedua fakultas tersebut. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan beberapa poin penting. Pertama, jurnal artikel di kedua fakultas memiliki urutan yang sama dalam penggunaan jenis kalimat yang paling sering, yaitu kalimat majemuk bertingkat, kalimat tunggal, kalimat majemuk campuran dan kalimat majemuk setara. Kedua, kualitas logika kalimat di kedua fakultas tersebut sangat baik, tetapi tetap ada indikasi kesalahan dalam kalimat. Sintak dan tanda baca adalah dua kesalahan yang paling sering muncul dikedua fakultas. Ketiga, kualitas kutipan dan referensi dalam hal kesesuaian penulisannya tidak memuaskan di kedua fakultas. Dalam hal ini, mekanik adalah masalah yang paling sering ditemukan di kutipan, sedangkan judul adalah tempat dimana kesalahan paling sering ditemukan di referensi. Pemilihan sumber dalam jurnal artikel dirasa kurang baik karena para dosen kebanyakan menggunakan sumber dari buku daripada jurnal artikel, walaupun mereka sebagian besar menggunakan sumber yang diterbitkan dalam 10 tahun terakhir. Singkatnya, kualitas jurnal artikel dikedua fakultas tersebut baik dari segi logika kalimatnya, tetapi kurang cukup baik dari segi kesesuaian penulisan kutipan dan referensinya. ---------- This study investigates the types of sentences, the quality of sentence logic and the quality of citations and references in the journal articles written by the lecturers from the faculty of social science and the faculty of language and literature in one university in Bandung. The types of sentences and the quality of sentence logic were analyzed based on the frameworks proposed by Alwi, Dardjowidjoyo, Lapoliwa, and Moeliono (2003) combined with Oshima and Hogue (2007), while the citations and references were analyzed according to APA style (2010). By employing a descriptive qualitative method, this study examines sixteen journal articles as the representation of each department in the two faculties. The findings reveal several main points. First, journal articles in the two faculties share the same rank of most common sentence types: complex, simple, compound and compound-complex sentences. Second, the quality of sentence logic in both faculties is excellent, yet there is still an indication of mistakes. Syntax and punctuation are the two most common mistakes in both faculties. Third, the quality of citations and references regarding their appropriateness is unsatisfactory in both faculties. In this case, mechanics is the most common citation mistake while title is the most common reference mistake. The selection of sources is considered inadequate for a particular reason since the lecturers mostly use books instead of article/journal, even though they mainly use sources published in the last 5 years. In brief, the quality of journal articles in both faculties is good in terms of the sentence logic, but not good enough regarding the appropriateness of citations and references.
