Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya permasalahan pembelajaran kimia yang lebih menekankan pada perhitungan daripada menanamkan konsep pada siswa, sehingga siswa akan kesulitan apabila menemukan masalah baru dengan konsep yang lebih kompleks. Hal tersebut menyebabkan siswa kurang terampil dalam memecahkan masalah pada kehidupannya sehari-hari. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi mengenai pengaruh pendekatan Problem-Based Learning (PBL) dalam meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa pada konteks penstabilan pH air kolam renang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasi experiment dengan one group pretest-posttest design. Subyek penelitian terdiri dari 34 orang siswa kelas XI MIA pada salah satu SMA Negeri di Kota Bandung. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah lembar observasi penilaian kinerja guru, lembar observasi sikap dan kinerja siswa, format penilaian LKS, dan butir soal. Peningkatan penguasaan konsep siswa dinilai berdasarkan hasil pretest dan posttest yang diukur menggunakan uji Wilcoxon signed-rank dan paired sample t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh PBL model Eggen dan Kauchak pada konteks penstabilan pH air kolam renang terhadap kinerja guru dalam merencanakan dan melaksanakan pembelajaran dikategorikan sangat baik dengan persentase nilai sebesar 96% dan 94,8%, sedangkan terhadap sikap dan kinerja siswa memperoleh kategori sangat baik dengan persentase 95,6% dan 88,7%. Pendekatan PBL secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep siswa sebesar 48,8%. Berdasarkan uji paired sample t-test terhadap penguasaan konsep siswa pada hasil pretest dan posttest diperoleh nilai t sebesar 15,746 pada taraf signifikansi 0,05, yang menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan penguasaan konsep pada siswa setelah diterapkan pendekatan PBL model Eggen dan Kauchak. This study was based on the problem in chemsitry education practice that overstating in calculation in questions than inculcating concepts on students, so they would find difficulities if discovering new problems with complex chemistry concepts. This cause student’s lack of skill in solving problems in their real life. The purpose of this study is to obtain information about Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach in increasing student’s mastery of concept in stabilizing the pH of pool water context. This study was a quasi experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. Subjects in this study consisted of 34 students of XI Science from one of the high schools in Bandung. The research instrument consisted of teacher performance assessment observation sheet, attitude and performance of student’s observation sheets, worksheets assessment format, and items in written test. Students’ increasing mastery of concept are assessed from the results of pretest and posttest were measured using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and paired sample t-test. The results showed that the influence of PBL Eggen and Kauchak models in stabilizing the pH of the pool water context toward the performance of teachers in planning and implementing learning obtained excellent category by the percentage of 96% and 94.8%, while the attitudes and performance of students obtained excellent category by percentage of 95.6% and 88.7%. PBL approach can increase student’s mastery of concept by 48.8% significantly. Based on paired samples t-test about students’ mastery of concept in pretest and posttest obtained t value of 15.746 at the significance level of 0.05, which indicates that there is an increasing mastery of concepts after the student receives the treatment of PBL Eggen and Kauchak models.
