Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan fakta rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa SMP. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) mengetahui apakah kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan problem based learning lebih baik dibandingkan siswa dengan pendekatan konvensional; (2) mengetahui bagaimana pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan problem based learning ditinjau dari KKM di sekolah. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitiannya adalah nonequivalent control group design. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP negeri di cimahi tahun ajaran 2014/2015, Pada penelitian ini diambil dua kelas sebagai sampel dari sejumlah kelas VIII secara acak kelas. Satu kelas sebagai kelas eksperimen mengikuti pembelajaran dengan pendekatan problem based learning dan satu kelas sebagai kelas kontrol mengikuti pembelajaran secara konvensional. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa: (1) peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan pendekatan problem based learning lebih baik daripada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional; (2) skor rata-rata pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan problem based learning lebih tinggi daripada skor kkm di sekolah. This research is based on the importance and the low of junior high school students’ mathematical problem solving skills. Therefore, this research is aimed to: (1) investigating wheather mathematical problem solving ability of students who learn under problem based learning approach is better than those who learn conventional approach ; (2) investigating how mathematical problem solving ability of students who learn under problem based learning that is viewed from school minimal mastery level. The method applied in the research was a quasi experimental design by using non-equivalent control group design. The population of the research was eighth graders in one of the junior high school in Cimahi, West java, academic year 2014/2015. There were two groups chosen randomly. The first was the experimental group who learn under problem based learning and the second was the control group who learn under conventional approach. The result of the research were: (1) the students improvement in mathematical problem solving Ability who learn under problem based learning approach is better than conventional learning; (2) the problem solving ability of students who learn under problem based learning approach is higher than school minimal mastery level.
