Abstract

ABSTRAK Empati adalah keterampilan sosial dan emosional yang penting untuk perkembangan anak. Kemampuan ini memungkinkan anak untuk mengenali, memahami, dan menanggapi emosi orang lain yang berperan dalam membangun hubungan sosial yang harmonis. Secara umum, anak berusia 4 hingga 6 tahun sering kali memiliki keterbatasan dalam berempati. Seperti sulit dalam hal berbagi, membantu teman, atau memahami perasaan orang lain. Fenomena ini menggambarkan perlunya upaya sistematis untuk mendukung pengembangan empati untuk anak usia dini. Dalam konteks ini, pengembangan empati adalah kunci untuk membangun hubungan yang sehat dan harmonis antara anak -anak. Buku cerita bergambar memiliki potensi besar sebagai media pembelajaran yang efektif untuk mengajarkan nilai empati. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk merancang buku cerita bergambar yang dapat mengajarkan empati kepada anak berusia 4-6 tahun. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan proses perancangan menggunakan metode Design Thinking yang terdiri dari lima tahap yaitu: Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype, dan Testing. Hasil yang diharapkan dari penelitian ini yaitu merancang buku cerita bergambar yang tidak hanya menarik secara visual, tetapi juga dapat meningkatkan pemahaman anak dalam hal empati. Selain itu, harapannya penelitian ini dapat menjadi media yang dapat membantu orang tua dan tenaga pendidik dalam mengajar anak tentang pentingnya empati dalam kehidupan sosial. This ability enables children to recognize, understand, and respond to the emotions of others, which plays a crucial role in building harmonious social relationships. Generally, children aged 4 to 6 often face limitations in demonstrating empathy, such as difficulties in sharing, helping peers, or understanding the feelings of others. This phenomenon highlights the need for systematic efforts to support the development of empathy in early childhood. In this context, fostering empathy is key to establishing healthy and harmonious relationships among children. Picture storybooks hold significant potential as an effective learning medium to teach the values of empathy. The purpose of this study is to design a picture storybook that can teach empathy to children aged 4–6 years. This research employs a qualitative approach with a design process guided by the Design Thinking method, which consists of five stages: Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Testing. The expected outcome of this study is the development of a picture storybook that is not only visually appealing but also enhances children’s understanding of empathy. Furthermore, this study is expected to serve as a medium that can assist parents and educators in teaching children about the importance of empathy in social life.
