Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi permainan tradisional Gobak Sodor dalam melatih karakter sosial siswa sekolah dasar, dampaknya terhadap pengembangan karakter sosial siswa, serta karakter sosial apa saja yang muncul dalam permainan tersebut. Latar belakang penelitian ini didasarkan pada kekhawatiran terhadap menurunnya interaksi sosial anak akibat dominasi permainan digital, sehingga diperlukan pendekatan alternatif yang menyenangkan dan edukatif untuk membentuk karakter sosial, salah satunya melalui permainan tradisional. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan subjek sebanyak 32 siswa kelas V SDN II Mekarjaya. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model analisis data Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi permainan Gobak Sodor berjalan efektif dengan keterlibatan aktif siswa pada setiap aturan dan strategi permainan. Permainan ini berdampak positif dalam meningkatkan interaksi sosial, menumbuhkan empati, memperkuat kebersamaan, serta membentuk kepedulian terhadap teman. Karakter sosial yang muncul meliputi kerja sama, tanggung jawab, jujur, toleransi, sportivitas, dan disiplin. Permainan tradisional dapat menjadi alternatif maupun pembiasaan dalam pembentukan karakter anak. Selain itu, permainan tradisional tidak hanya harus dipandang sebagai warisan masa lampau, melainkan juga dapat digunakan dalam pembelajaran di era digital, karena mampu menghadirkan pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan, edukatif, serta menyeimbangkan interaksi sosial di tengah dominasi permainan modern berbasis gawai. Lebih jauh, permainan tradisional juga dapat menjadi bagian dari upaya membangun ciri khas pengembangan karakter bangsa di tengah arus globalisasi. Siswa Sekolah Dasar ---------- This study aims to describe the implementation of the traditional game Gobak Sodor in fostering elementary school students’ social character, its impact on the development of social character, and the types of social character that emerge during the game. The background of this research is based on concerns about the decline in children’s social interaction due to the dominance of digital games, thereby requiring an alternative approach that is both enjoyable and educational to build social character, one of which is through traditional games. This research employed a qualitative method with 32 fifth-grade students of SDN II Mekarjaya as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman data analysis model. The findings reveal that the implementation of Gobak Sodor was effective, with students actively engaging in every rule and strategy of the game. The game positively contributed to enhancing social interaction, fostering empathy, strengthening togetherness, and developing a sense of care toward peers. The social characters that emerged included cooperation, responsibility, honesty, tolerance, sportsmanship, and discipline. Traditional games can serve as an alternative as well as a habituation tool in shaping children’s character. Furthermore, traditional games should not only be regarded as relics of the past but can also be integrated into contemporary learning in the digital era, as they provide enjoyable and educational learning experiences while balancing social interaction amidst the dominance of gadget-based modern games. More broadly, traditional games may also contribute to developing the distinctive character-building identity of the nation in the era of globalization.
