    Abstract

    Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya pemahaman konsep peserta didik pada materi nilai tempat bilangan cacah, seperti kesalahan dalam memahami soal, penempatan digit baik itu angka nol atau angka yang lain, keliru dalam menentukan contoh dari bilangan cacah dan kesulitan menjelaskan kembali konsep secara mandiri. Hal tersebut berdampak pada kesulitan dalam melakukan operasi hitung dan menyelesaikan masalah matematika sehari-hari. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pendekatan pembelajaran yang lebih kontekstual dan bermakna. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi efektivitas pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep nilai tempat bilangan cacah pada peserta didik kelas V sekolah dasar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain pre eksperimen dengan bentuk one-group pretest-postest. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes berupa instrumen pre-test dan post-test yang disusun berdasarkan empat indikator, yaitu menjelaskan kembali konsep, mengidentifikasi contoh dan bukan contoh, menggunakan prosedur, serta mengaplikasikan konsep. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 28 peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan signifikan antara nilai pre-test dan post-test peserta didik. Rata-rata nilai pre-test 50,5 dan post-test meningkat menjadi 79,1. Maka penerapan pendekatan RME terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep pembelajaran matematika, khususnya pada materi nilai tempat bilangan cacah. Hal tersebut ditunjukkan oleh hasil uji perbedaan rerata dan skor N-Gain sebesar 0,58 yang termasuk dalam kategori sedang (cukup efektif). This study was motivated by the low level of understanding of place value concepts in integers among students, such as errors in understanding questions, placing numbers, both zero and other numbers, incorrect examples of integers, and difficulty in explaining the concept independently. This has an impact on difficulties in performing calculations and solving everyday mathematical problems. Therefore, a more contextual and meaningful learning approach is needed. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach in improving students' understanding of the concept of place value of integers among fifth-grade elementary school students. The research method used is quantitative with a pre-experimental design in the form of a one group pretest-posttest. The data collection technique used was a test in the form of pretest and posttest instruments designed based on four indicators: explaining concepts, identifying examples and non-examples, using procedures, and applying concepts. The research sample consisted of 28 students. The research results showed a significant increase between the pretest and posttest scores of the students. The average pretest score was 50.5, and the posttest score increased to 79.1. Thus, the application of the RME approach was proven effective in improving mathematical concept understanding, particularly on the topic of numbers.
