Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa SMP dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita segiempat dan faktor penyebabnya berdasarkan prosedur Newman. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan partisipan sebanyak 27 siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP Negeri di Kota Bandung. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes diagnostik berupa soal cerita kepada 27 orang siswa dan wawancara semi terstruktur terhadap 6 orang siswa terpilih yang terdiri dari kategori kemampuan rendah 2 orang, sedang 2 orang, dan tinggi 2 orang. Data dianalisis menggunakan lima jenis kesalahan menurut prosedur Newman, yaitu kesalahan membaca, kesalahan memahami, kesalahan transformasi, kesalahan keterampilan proses, dan kesalahan penulisan jawaban akhir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa melakukan kesalahan membaca, kesalahan memahami, kesalahan transformasi, kesalahan keterampilan proses dan kesalahan penulisan jawaban akhir. Kesalahan terjadi karena beberapa faktor, antara lain siswa mengerjakan soal dengan kurang teliti dan mengerjakan secara terburu-buru, faktor kurang menguasai materi prasyarat, dan faktor soal yang kompleks. Kata Kunci: Analisis Kesalahan, Soal Cerita, Segiempat, Prosedur Newman This study aims to analyze junior high school students' errors in solving mathematical story problems on quadrilateral based on the Newman’s procedure. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with 27 eighth grade students as participants at a public junior high school in Bandung. Data collection techniques were carried out through diagnostic tests in the form of story problems with 27 students and semi-structured interviews with 6 selected students from the low, medium, and high ability categories. Data were analyzed using five types of error according to the Newman procedure, namely reading error, comprehension error, transformation error, process skills error, and encoding error. The results of the study show that students experienced types of errors, such as reading error, comprehension error, transformation error, process skills error, and encoding error. Errors occur due to several factors, including factors of being hasty and careless, factors of not mastering the prerequisite materials, and complex questions.
